We're about to purchase a HVX200. A good amount of our business is music video and music DVD/documentaries. We also do commercials and corporate work.

I'm wondering what people are doing to archive long form P2 projects. I have been reading on this forum that people are buying firewire drives for individual projects. Currently I have piece of mind knowing that after a project is finished I can always go back to the raw tape if there is a shot I want to use a year from now. Any thoughts are appreciated thanks!

Cheap external drives are the solution 80-90% of the time for me.

If you are going to be accumlating terrabytes of data a tape backup will suit you in the long term (but forget about "cheap). I've been using LTO-2/LTO-3 for 20 months now (Windows XP) without a single issue. Used drives can be had in the +- $1000 range on eBay, 400/800 gig tapes (you'll only get 400 on it) run anywhere from 20-50 bucks. SCSI card for PC $100-200, and decent backup software about $100 (NovaStor or Yosemite).

Best.

I have a DLT drive...that frankly I forgot about. It probably makes sense to use that.
