C300: Architecture Film

That wasn't constructive criticism. Those were petty quibbles at most, overlooking the whole for unimportant details in the scope of the project.

Sure, there were some things that could be improved, but on the whole this was a gorgeous piece. This isn't a Hollywood feature or even a high budget corporate documentary, it's a skeleton crew video that achieves a great look and feeling. I watched the whole thing and didn't realize that 5 minutes had passed, which is pretty good I'd say.

If you want to get petty about the details, I'm sure you will be right at home on the front page of this Cinema EOS forum, where the most important discussion by far is FS7 vs. C300 mkii. Meh...

Jon, very well done! Excellent work all around!!!! Dang, I just wish someone could post a video one time with "NO CRITICISM"! Jon, I know you said you'd welcome criticism, but you said that "AFTER" the forum member wrote his "personal review" on what he thought wasn't correct (good job taking the high road with your response). Thank you VERY MUCH for taking the time to share your work with the forum. I thought it was FANTASTIC!!!!! You could shoot with my team anytime!

Couldn't agree more! You know a video is good when you don't see time fly by. Again, Very good job Jon.

Thank you both!

Remsyatassi - love your perspective.

AFA Mr. Coughlin's criticism:
ignore
excellent piece that envokes awareness that could ultimately encourage large donations.
Beautifully shot.
Rules are ultimately meant to be broken
& you obviously know the rules.
nice work sir

I thought it was really well-done. I didn't really notice any technical flaws until the second or third time I'd watched it because the first run through had me pulled into the story.

I'd argue that if things like lav mics in the shot and what type of mic was used "pull you out of the story" you were never looking to be IN the story to begin with.

On another note, I just got a Second Shooter setup... stuff like this makes me itch to use it, so I'll probably shut up and shoot this weekend, so thanks for that.

There is ZERO to complain about in this video......well done. Story trumps technical and if you have to watch it multiple times to notice any imperfections, then it is more than fine.

Nothing that was filmed is out of focus - so, I'd be curious to know what you see as out of focus.

:30 the building in the distance is soft, IMO. That's what should be in focus.

Anyone else feel some of the shots are dark...especially in the beginning? (opening 2) or is it just my monitor? Really tough spot with some of those shadows. The dark wood interiors are also a tough one to work with.

I agree with the sentiment of Remsyatassi. It's great when people share actual work.

BTW, "no photos as broll" for a piece like this? Man, you're a tough customer.....

Thanks - Christian, jbregar, Jim, and Scott! Much appreciated.

Scott - just checked that clip. Shot started out sharp but some stabilization was added in post (slider had some bad ballbearings which got repaired after the project) - so, good call, and easy enough to fix in order get the sharpness back which was lost in the process.

Regarding the brightness/shadow detail... my website has a dark grey background as does my blog - so, I tend to optimize the video files based on that or split the difference. If you view on Vimeo with the white background then the video might look a bit dark. View on my site or blog and all should be good.

I also calibrate my screen with an Xrite/i1 spectrophotometer so that I have an accurate starting point for evaluating color, tone, etc.
