GH4 April Fools Prank: Panasonic Abandons M43?

I would hope that all the articles reporting the "Canon buying Panasonic" portion of this aren't using April fools to make a joke. Talking about a left handed 7D is one thing...but reporting that one company is buying another is in poor taste.

I'm not buying it myself just yet, but if it is a joke, I agree it's in bad taste. Panasonic will have to respond soon if it is an April Fools' Joke, or risk losing out on a lot of pre-orders.

I thought the joke was fun, cant place it in the "bad taste" category at all :)

But for fun, if it where true :)
To those that preordered and payed up front, why didnt you preorder without a cash payment?
And if the answer is "my dealer demands..." then imo you switch dealer. The customer is suposed to make the rules.

With the GH4 you only have one year's warranty. Stocked repair parts could be in short supply. Probably no firmware updates. Lower resale value. Lenses that you can't use on another camera system. Granted there are no guarantees in life so I guess you take your chances.

Depends on where you live, I get 3 years warranty. Lower resale value, are you buying it to sell it or use it?
The lenses would be cheaper for us to buy used if the system was cancelled ;)

Settle down folks - we need some humour in our lives - yes, we were sucked in and ain' t that a beautiful thing - well done Vitaly. Please note, no animals or children were harmed in this experiment.

I'm not totally convinced, given many of the responses on the blog that published this, that Panasonic weren't harmed, albeit (hopefully) temporarily. Not sure it's bad taste necessarily, but equally not sure it was well advised. I think many of us sniffed it out as a 'gag' from the get go, but despite my reasonably well developed sense of humour (as well as making videos I am a comedy actor currently on tour in the UK) I didn't find this particularly funny and I have an inkling that Panasonic won't have either.

The rumor mill is driving me nuts on this one, but that video made it just a little bit worth it.

Thanks for posting Joe!

Joe - That is positively f'n HILARIOUS!!

"Have you ever tried to pull focus on a full frame camera at f/2.0"

almost in tears at that point

just what I needed to start my Tuesday, Geek Humor!! Lmao

If someone cancelled their GH4 over a single source rumour (based on no logical facts) then they deserve the outcome. Panasonic won't be harmed. There are probably more pre-orders for the GH4 than initial supply anyway so Panasonic is all good. People will realize its just a prank before it ships even for the slowest to catch on.

If Panasonic were more open and forthcoming about the future of the af100 cam and 4/3 in general, this wouldn't and couldn't have happened.

What, like all the other massive corporations who are open and forthcoming about their future plans? ;-) Not sure how Panasonic's desire to be cagey about its plans (however frustrating that might be) has anything to do with it.

And as for people realizing it's a prank, well of course they will, but that doesn't stop some people having had a few hours of grief - just read through some of the comments on the blog - some people were genuinely worried about it. My point is that a prank that causes anyone ANY distress, no matter how dumb or illogical that might seem to you, ceases to be a funny prank any more. I think the guy just stepped a little over the mark, that's all.

Just seems from a casual observers perspective that Panny support and marketing for the af100 line has been pretty tepid. They treat it like a red headed step child; no new models, no significant updates. For whatever reasons, this product line has always endured the doubter mentality. Maybe NAB will bring something. Although I have considered a AF purchase, I've held off do to this tepid support.

And lack of good EF lens support.

Why would anybody take any news on April 1st seriously? Wait a day and if the news continues then you can believe it. I would never believe this type of rumor even if it wasn't April 1st because it was after all a rumor and nobody should ever take those as fact until they are proved.

This is incredible sad if this did affect Panasonic. Why would people base their purchasing decisions off of a single rumor?
