GH4 April Fools Prank: Panasonic Abandons M43?

I am concerned as I have a GH4 on pre-order and they have my money. The biggest problem I see is investing in expensive m4/3 lenses and not being able to migrate them to another brand camera. Also, who would want to invest in a camera that is basically dead in the water and will not be refined or further developed. I am scratching my head right now hoping this is a hoax but after doing a little research it looks like Panasonic has some huge restructuring in the works.

Yeah, it's worrisome. I have the GH3 and m4/3 lenses, including some pricy ones like the pana 12-35, and was planning on buying the GH4. Don't know what to do now...

I mean, if it's dead, then what happens to all the lenses people bought, never mind the bodies? How can you trust Panasonic going forward with any products if they'll abandon their customers at a drop of a hat. That said, I can't say that there's not been plenty of warnings from all sorts of places about the long term future of the m4/3 format, which is why so many people focus on someone who is not going to abandon the market, like Canon... except I hate the Canon offerings, so what can you do.

April fools obviously. Although I would actually like it if it were true: a gh4 with a full frame sensor would be amazing.

Yea, if true it stinks. I recently sold all my video gear with the intent of going mirrorless, lightweight, and investing in some premium glass. Unfortunately, there is nothing out there equivalent to the specs on the GH4 and in my price range. So here I am camera less with no "B" plan.

I'm guessing this is an April fools joke. I received it in my email and immediately guessed it was a joke. It is probably April 1st in Russia ;)

If it is a joke, its not funny. Just talked to may camera dealer and although he didn't know anything, he is not happy either.

How would this affect the GH4 being a great camera or not?

It'd be a bonus in the sense that gear prices would drop. Of course the future would be grim, but it'd be a great tool nevertheless.

And the lenses would still be great. And still work with other 4:3 systems.

Are you just concerned about service?

Other than that -- so what.

(of course it's all probably BS anyway)

What happens when the shutter goes? Digital cameras are not like film cams, they have a finite lifespan, and once it's dead, it's dead. Then you are sitting on a ton of m4/3 glass that is completely worthless. And yeah, not being able to have it fixed for a reasonable price is also not nice. If true, this is indeed very, very bad news, especially for those who put in a ton of money to buy m4/3 lenses.

It's a April fools joke. That videoless audio from YouTube with two guys mumbling in Japanese is just silly. Not buying this for a minute.

Abandoning the system for which they just introduced a $1600 Leica-branded lens, groundbreaking new camera system, with more lenses in development... and that based on rumors from Russian hacker on April Fool's day... yep, seems completely plausible.

With the GH4 you only have one year's warranty. Stocked repair parts could be in short supply. Probably no firmware updates. Lower resale value. Lenses that you can't use on another camera system. Granted there are no guarantees in life so I guess you take your chances.

Vitaliy did the same type of thing a couple years ago and got everybody all lathered up. This is round two for him and he is laughing his ass off.

The funny thing is the moronic proportion of morons who believe this while being reminded that it is april fools day in the very same thread. (unless it is some sort of custom to pretend to believe these things).
