Apple dumps Intel and shows Final Cut Pro on new Mac with Apple CPU !

I dunno if there will be big sales on the M1. I think the new models will just get priced higher. It looks like the M1 maintained apple's pricing on their previous Intel-based entry level models. So I'm guessing that the M1X or M2 or whatever will slot in at the price tier above

But you might find a good deal on a used M1 from upgraders

Wound up picking up an M1 MBP with 16gb of RAM. Just couldn't wait for the new MBs and when I heard the 14in and 16in would be similarly priced I got turned off... This machine handles my A7SIII h265 great without having to proxy!...
 
Yeah I have the same thing in mac mini form and the same experience with A7SIII h265.

Ps looks like you're dumping your EF gear ahead of me! I've been on the fence about selling my EF lenses I still use on the gh5 and the FS7 with a speedbooster. But I really should get on that because they're only going down in value... I guess I'm sort of waiting to get an a7iv or whatever to replace my gh5... anyway, good for you for getting on jt
 
Yeah, I sold my fs7 on CL and luckily didn't take too much of a bath. Doesn't seem to be much interest in the EF glass though. Tempted to put them on Ebay, but I would hate to do that with their exorbitant fees. I was considering holding on to them and picking up a c70, but the fx6 is just such a beast and would fit my shooting style perfectly...

The new Apple Silicon Macs are going o be a lot more expensive. They are replacing the higher end Intel Macs while the M1 replaced the lower end models. Think more like the 16" MBP prices.
I'm mostly looking forward to the higher end Mac Mini if it happens although that will also cost more than the current M1 Mac mini.

I'm probably just going to sell on eBay when I do sell. But yeah the stuff ain't worth that much anymore. I'd love an fx6 but my clients are still accepting the fs7 and I'm trying to just buy gear on a need basis from here on. But I admit that I've never really liked the fs7

Yeah, I figured they're definitely headed that way. It was between the M1 and a used 2019 16in and I figured the M1 was a better choice in terms of power and the Intels will be obsolete soon...

I haven't been getting any of the client work any more that I would have shot on the fs7 (corporate, TV) so I sold it to a filmmaker that does...

I use my A7 S3 way, way more often. But for interviews, the fs7 foots the bill. It looks like a camera and it takes XLR inputs. So it's always my a camera for interviews. And my auction house client owns an fs7, so it's useful to have one if they need matching camera. And even though they would massively, massively benefit from the sensitivity, color, e n d, and auto focus of the fx6, they show no indication considering an upgrade. But yeah at least for the stuff I do, even though the fx6 would be way better, fs7 is still adequate and it's the devil that people know. If I'm applying for a gig that I think is more likely to hire me with a different camera, then I'll just say I owe that camera and rent it if I get the gig. And that way I get some insight into whether or not owning a different camera would benefit me, and fortunately or unfortunately that means I don't have reason to upgrade right now unless I just wanted to improve the quality of my footage which is true is never a bad investment

I'm jealous, but I'm happy with my 13" MBP.

I have this problem of having to upgrade every new computer purchase to its maximum specs (besides the SSD) Apple offers, and this one would have been a bit too much for me at this point in my life @$3900 (plus tax) because I would never use all of the power it offers.

With that said, I always adored my 17" back in the day and would definitely consider a 17" MBA for like $1K but doubt that would happen.
 
Man, Erik naso's article at newsshooter reads like an ad. I hate his articles almost as much as I love Matt Allard's.

Anyway, I'm so glad I don't suffer from computer-related GAS because these things look amazing. But I'm doing fine with what I have now, so why upgrade? I'm sure that editors with more demanding applications will be excited. But my proxy workflow is painless and my playback/editing experience is already smooth as butter
 
I think Erik was basically writing a breaking-news/new-product story, so I'm fine with what he wrote. And I like most of Erik's reviews.
(Related: I think Newsshooter could really use a good audio writer/reviewer who understands both low-end and high-end needs).

The new MBPs look pretty impressive. I have an Intel 16-inch MBP and it's still rolling for most of my laptop needs, but I'd like something more compact that I can use for reporting and field producing (ie- email and reviewing footage...not heavy editing and rendering :tongue:). A 14-inch MBP might fit the bill, but I'll want to see some sensible real-world benchmarks first.

I haven't really dug in, but it looks like the HDMI port is 2.0 and only output; small bummer... I'm not an HDMI fan (is anyone?), but it would be cool if it had HDMI in. I'm glad to see that Touch Bar thing go...

I dunno... his 2nd sentence begins, "These chips deliver a lot of power with less power," and that sounds like straight marketing language

on another note, i think my feeling with computers has always been that if I can deliver the same result by using workarounds or a little extra time, then i don't need to upgrade. And that's a different situation from choosing one lens over another. Their characteristics are largely baked in. But of course, your computer needs to surpass whatever threshold is required to run your software and complete your work on time. I couldn't make do with a powerpc but my Intel mbp and m1 Mac mini will do me for now

(Also, I know for a fact that editors have saved me from errors like that).

About computers, I pretty much follow your approach. I'll drive computers into the ground, but I could use a new computer soon. Though I might wait until January, for tax reasons. Already spent as much as I can this year...
 
Looks like an amazing machine. I just can’t justify paying this much for horsepower combined with portability. My laptop needs are rarely that intensive.

on the other hand, I’d love to switch back to Apple OS for my main editing workstation, so I’d much rather put the money toward an upcoming Mac Pro. Unfortunately, they will likely price the well spec’d models around the price of a Tesla!

I suppose a higher end iMac with the Apple Silicon will be the “affordable” middle ground for professional level post work.

My current MBP is just over 9 years old. I'm very tempted to get a new 16" MBP MAX, but this one just keeps going.
