Apple beats Microsoft!

I didn't mean for my 'cool news' to be taken as a 'pro apple' stance - it was just that as someone who grew up with Apple always being the little guy (they're far from that now, obviously) it's interesting to see them become such a huge player... at least financially.

Yeah, I didn't want to start that old flame war again. It is just that even as successful as Apple has become, there is always this air of their imminent demise being bandied about. Especially when it comes to the Pro apps. I like there products and they have done ok by me, so far. I am glad for their success.

So weird isn't it. From the edge of bankruptcy to this all in about ten years or so? Have to admit, I'm lovin' it.

My only worry is that Steve Jobs has been in relatively poor health the past couple of years, according to my mom who is a doctor at Stanford Medical (where Jobs is a patient). I have this nagging feeling like he's the pure brilliance behind Apple's innovation, and no one else. Of course, Apple now has a large user base and a reputation for innovation but what if, god forbid, something happens to Mr. Jobs?

I hope everyone isn't forgetting that in 1997, Microsoft gave Apple $150 million to bail them out.
Without that, this post wouldn't exist.
I guess we can thank Bill just as much as Steve for the success...yes?

Disappointed. I have 2 macs, and not invited for the champagne toast. Cannot understand it...........

Maybe they lost my invite..........yeah, that's what I am gonna think.

They sent a letter specifically asking me not to show up.

Hopefully Microsoft will be pushed to be a bit more innovative and develop at a slightly higher level thanks to this. Most of what they make is fine, but they've lost some of the edge that got them to the top in the first place. Getting comfortable will do that to you.

It's a bit apple/orangish. It's not like this represents Apple beating Windows in the computer realm; that dynamic hasn't changed much. It just means that by one measure, Apple's consumer products have allowed the company to surpass MS.

MacOS vs Windows hasn't changed. Apple is a hardware company, this is all about iPods and iPhones, but still, good for them :)

Actually, it was $150 million investment in Apple as a stock purchase, and a commitment to provide MS products to Apple for at least five years.

I also think there was an exchange of some technology regarding QT, and Apple agreed to use Internet Explorer as its default web browser that shipped with the OS.

It's funny how MS was the enemy then.

How things have changed.
