Apple 13 Series SUFFER NEW lens flaring / ghosting

"Pros" have very little say here. Hundreds of millions of normal people and normal people paying people that charge money to use a camera will decide if this footage will be acceptable or rejectable.

I'm not sure this market analysis makes sense. It might make sense in the context of wedding videography where "normal people" are directly hiring a cameraman and need to decide if they can make do with an amateur with an iphone. But most of the work in video is not being hired by "normal people". It's being hired by producers

I don't care anymore, it's all good.

I'm tired of having the same conversations over and over, ha. We'll just see what happens and it is what it will be.

yeah. maybe google glass will make a comeback and put the iphone out of business.

why would anybody want to reach into their pocket for their smartphone when they could just wear it on their face?

Just started shipping. Barely anyone has it and Apple hasn't even rolled out any software updates for it (which they likely will).

I mean, it's cool to analyze the marketing and make theoretical conclusions which could turn out being 110% accurate, but maybe at least wait until you see some more footage.

As far as the additional purposes of a phone...it's a young man's and woman's world and they surely will welcome more multitasking from one device.

Again you assume I'm against this or do not like that. That is absolutely not the case at all. I do think its really cool. I'm also a realist and know from every single previous launch that we all have this same conversation and yet the iPhone still has not taken over.

Its a tool not a game changer. A really cool tool and armatures have tools they would not have had before but at the end of the day its just a tool. I'm not trashing or disliking it in any way. Just brining the hype back down to Earth a bit and setting realistic expectations which I'm sure will be exactly the same as every other time a cool new Apple phone thing comes out.

Of course I will use it and I will like it. Just saying its not replacing any of my other gear anytime soon. Its just another tool in the toolbox.

This is pretty much a prototype for big tech, IMO.

Trust what you will see in the next 5 years will turn your head upside down.

It won't be in the toolbox; it will be the toolbox.

The hype for iPhones is always there but rarely about the video. It might be there now among consumers, but no person with deep video intellect with other cameras thought the quality was ever any good.

My personal hype is for their movement, not the IQ (although this is the best one yet).

Let's assume for a second that you can actually get Hollywood in your pocket at some point. Computational photography and AI are so good that nobody can distinguish a $100k movie scene from something a kid shot with amateur actors and auto-tuned in post.

It wouldn't change the task of the writer, director, or producer much, if at all. And cinematography on a Deakins level doesn't really change in terms of making creative decisions for expressive effect. All that changes is how it's achieved.

But it would have a massive impact, as I've been saying, on more elemental shooting where exposure/focus/stability and general problem-solving are all that is required of the technician. Basically, that technician will no longer be required by whoever is producing it (although they will need PAs to do the manual labor).

With regard to writing/directing/producing - maybe people will be able to do those things with lower budgets and less formal training. But they still need to hone their craft. Basically, I think that Hollywood in your pocket wouldn't make everyone a filmmaker, it would just give them all the opportunity to become one. Which is an opportunity they have right now, just at a higher cost.

And then the bride and groom strap them on, on the wedding night for the video they don’t give out to friends…

”I got a couple of tough shadows to deal with.” “There’s shadows in life, baby.”

The thing with the photo-video technology is that the smartphone manufacturers are in the hunt for the largest payoffs which comes from getting a little bit ahead of their competition, whereas the Japanese cartel leaves a lot of it off the table.

In a purely technical level, as an example, a Nikon P1000 (1,200x zoom) would have a smartphone resolution sensor of 40-50 MPX. Nikon keeps it at 12 because it doesn't want its model to overshadow either itself or its partners in crime. But the smartphone manufacturers need every pixel, with Samsung allegedly close to bringing out a 200 MPX data collector. Meanwhile, MFT is stuck on 20.

In a freer photo-video market, the product map would be all over .. the map. There'd be high end cameras with the smaller sensors and the entry level cameras with fewer features. Instead of a $1,500 smartphone, there'd be a $1,500 8K point&shoot, gimbal and Pro Res included.

And maybe a two lens camera a la Rolleiflex. A classic never goes out of style.

RED's patents expire in 2028 and their hold will likely vanish as their technology becomes public domain.

At this point, this is when motion picture capture devices, particularly phones, will start to become so interesting, IMO. (Of course Apple already challenged RED about it but lost in 2019, and it's obvious they wanted to include better recording in their phones sooner rather than later. And now that doesn't mean ProRes RAW would immediately make their current sensors and IQ phenomenal, but it's a good start.)

Nevertheless, with the 13 and beyond, nations will truly race and compete more than ever to create the best devices that can capture video in a world with much increased and continued video communication and creation, whether it's crippled by viruses or not.

Personally, I see a planet where our phones and perhaps other trinkets capture lifelike motion pictures. Video that looks so good that it's like your own eyes. [Remember when people used to say that about HD back in like 2005? lol]

It's never a single product that will immediately change the industry overnight, and it's always a combination of developments, and changes in mindsets, and new people taking over jobs, and other new technologies that are related (like faster networks, and new social media platforms, and viruses resulting in more video conferencing and naturally pushing people to learn about video production), etc.

So this is all a perfect storm brewing...

You have Apple - who probably has access to more individuals than most companies in the world - officially focusing on video. Then you have their competition interested in making better products, which could include phones with bigger sensors and better dynamic range. Then you have the transition to the 5Gs and 6Gs and what not for faster data sharing. Then AI editing [quietly] keeps improving.

Sometimes it's difficult for many to visualize a different future that may seem impossible right now, but things change.

Anyone follow retail? If you know anything about that industry, it is depressing what companies have in mind for the future of shopping, and many are surely convinced that will be the only way moving forward.

i've thought about putting a phone on my forehead for force mobile with the gimbal when i'm using both hands to hold the gimbal high on a monopod. i could have one phone positioned out in front of my face for monitor, and another phone strapped to my head to control pan and til with my head motions so I don't need an assistant. the idea is just kind of, y'know, crazy. even for me

otherwise, i can't imagine why i would put a phone on my forehead. to shoot video with? what about when I want to go high or low? even at normal heights, can you imagine the strain from having your neck position locked into your camera angle? (right now I have such a sweet poor man's arri trinity going with my weebill-s on a monopod. i can flip the camera upside down and get low-angle from the floor real fast. just spin my wrist monitor 180 degrees so i can monitor it correctly. or it can fly 12 feet in the air. time to transition between those 2 positions is about 6 or 8 seconds. you could take some shots moving between those positions too if you want to, if you're configured correctly)

That Marcus tech guy on YouTube said ProRes isn’t available yet for the 13 Pro or Max. Can anyone confirm this. He uploaded the video yesterday

I can't confirm, but highly certain.

IMO, there is a 99% chance in the technology industry that products aren't finished yet when shipped, which is why I thought it was pointless to debate its quality at this time.

Many of us have been through hell and back with cameras and camcorders for the last 10-20 years so we should know better than anyone else how these things work.

Actually a quick Google search seems to confirm: https://9to5mac.com/2021/09/15/prore...re-ios-update/
