In a new nation, Robinson Adams must part with his old life at the foot of the mountains-- the mountains that stand between him and his dream of a new life; the mountains they call the Appalachians.

"Appalachia" - A periodic short film directed and produced by Kyran Ford of Sleeping Sun Films.

The concept for "Appalachia" came around about 4 or 5 months ago when I thought I would take advantage of the locations we have around here. After taking the time to conceptualize, the co-producer and I had a solid story. We each went through hectic summers and got back around to the making just a month or so ago, while all in the process, I was building the crew (production and post-production). We had a last minute writer (DVXuser Egg Born Son) completely revamp the story/script and write a complete screenplay. He is truly a life saver! We hit the ground running in production and I think we literally hit every bump in the road possible. Murphy's Law is factual! LOL - Production was almost a nightmare, but I think everything turned out OK. We actually just wrapped principal photography this week-- a couple days ago to be exact. This is a very DVXuser-heavy film, as many DVXusers are involved. I'm really digging the relationship between the crew and me. I have an extremely talented VFX department composed of many who have worked on major motion pictures. I think that after post-production, the film should turn out looking fine. During production, I was skeptical if we would even be able to make the film at all. I won't list the entire crew as of now; I'll save that for you to see on the slick IMDb page once out. But I will list those involved that are from DVXuser.

Doc Bernard (sound designer/foley artist & sound mixer)
Egg Born Son (writer)
ryanjf (sound editor: dialogue)
Edgen (composer)
Hamreet (poster designer)
Justin Kuhn (alternate poster designer [not posted])
FilmBarrie (lead compositor & rotoscope artist) [although he doesn't really count as I got him to join!]
Gord.T (just a good thanks to the man!)

As far as cast, it's a one-character film, which is the character of Robinson Adams. Adams is played by a younger up-and-coming actor by the name of Cole Blaine. He was also lead in my last film. He has really matured as an actor and I find that I can direct him much better now than before. Of course indie actors have their flaws, but please overlook those and accept him as is. I've already received several compliments on how well he is looking and being able to play that "young and somewhat inexperienced frontiersman." The film takes place mainly at a campsite where Adams is writing a journal entry on his first day setting out in the foothills. The scenes relevant to his entry are those that intertwine with the pinnacle scene. I have a separate voice actor performing the entry/voice of Adams. His voice is much more fitting for the role.

If this sparks any interest from any more users, I wouldn't mind posting a more detailed synopsis and some production stills. As of now, we are in the VFX stages before the cutting begins. I have hopes of wrapping post-production within the next month and hitting the festival circuit. Total running time shouldn't exceed ten minutes.

The poster isn't 100% finalized yet, but when they are upon release, we will probably get them printed and distributed. Let me know if anybody wants one.

I've seen some stills, a bit of footage and VFX samples. Excited to see how it turns out. Kyran's approach was great to work with (as a writer). Receptive to ideas but also not afraid to ask for what he wanted/needed. It was a rewarding collaboration and his communication was excellent which allowed me to give him the script he needed. It was very short notice (completing pre-production before I was brought on board to write the script!) but the good communication between us allowed the pressure to be a motivator rather than a hurdle. Didn't know I was working with these other fine DVXers. How's it going, Doc? Gord? Glad to be part of it.

Sorry, guys.......LOL, I had to re-assemble my editing bay in prep for this......and did some test work to sync it all up. I am actually looking forward to getting back into the Sound Design aspect, and with such an awesome looking Period Piece and I like that it's going be "family".

Looking forward to the days ahead!!!!!!!!!!

Too bad mine wasn't McCoy...that could have made things interesting...

Though back in the day, I hear my kin was mixed up with in a feud involving the Yorks (à la Sergeant).

Interesting that you guys are making reference jokes to Hatfields & McCoys. Guess you'll have to see what comes out of me. You may or may not be shocked.

For me....it's not a joke, LOL......I really was born Steven Hatfield Jr. I was adopted and given my current surname at age 9.

How does that Jr. thing work? Do you have to wear it til your dying day, reach a certain age, wait for someone to die or just have a kid to become Snr.?

Nope, it's an appelation that goes with you all your life (or until your name is changed....in my case). My birth father was Sr.
