API for focus / iris jack

Where can I find the programming interface / spec on how to send focus and iris commands to the camera through the jack?

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob,
I don't have the exact answer for your question at this moment, but we did a similar test lately, working on a project for a lightweight wireless lens controller for the HVX.
A friend of mine, which is an RF technician, and I, did some tests to find out how the lens remote control jacks working. Unfortunately we had in our hands only a Manfrotto zoom/play/stop controller, so I can speak only for these functions for now, but we'll do more tests as soon as I get my focus/iris controller. My guy measured the zoom/play/stop jack with an oscillographer while the controller was sending commands to my HVX and we found the following.
The zoom jack has two channels, one channel is for the play/stop function and the other channel is for the zoom in/out function. The zoom jack provides 3.2 Volts to power up the connected controller. The zoom channel is plain regulated voltage. When the voltage is at 1 Volt the lens stays at its current zoom position. When you change the voltage from 0.8 Volts up to 0.2 Volts and from 1.2 Volts up to 1.8 Volts then the lens start the zoom in or zoom out procedure. At the ends of the voltage range the zooming gets faster and as you get near to the center (1V) it get slower. These numbers are approximate, but you get an idea.
The play/stop channel was even simpler. It has 1 Volt power and when you press the button on the controller it drops the power to 0.
So, the zoom controller is just a box with a button and a potentiometer.

When I have any info for the focus/iris jack I'll post it here.

Yup, the lens control jacks on the HVX (& DVX) are simple analog inputs! There is nothing complex involved. If you can solder, you can have yourself a controller built for under $10 with parts from radioshack.

This is one of the coolest, but un-noticed, features that panny put in these cameras.

Do you know of any DIY implementations of the STOP/START Button? I'm looking for the pin assignments for the 2.5mm Zoom/Rec socket and how to connect a simple push to make switch to make a wired START/STOP button.

Many thanks.
