Aperture versus Lightrom

I'm not a programer so it's very difficult for me to say how easy or hard it is to program software like Aperture, but this I know for an absolute FACT! Apple has known about the release of the 7D for at least 3 months, but probably much longer.

I purchased Aperture when it first came out, and paid like $500 for it, only later to be reimbursed $200 credit when they realized that it was very over priced for what you got. I still love Aperture, but most of my professional photographer friends use Lightroom, and guess what? Lightroom supports the 7D. I remember Phillip talking about not being able to use Raw files from the 7D back in September and how that was a drawback for him with Timelapse.

Why is it that we always have to wait so long Apple? Is it that the 7D just isn't that important to you?
Wake UP!!!!!

It's been the same with FCP not supporting AVCHD native editing. These guys make software and sell it cheap for the sole reason of boosting their hardware sales. The side effect is killing third party developers...

I'm not saying that Apple doesn't want to sell hardware BUT.

Final Cut Pro has excellent P2/XDCAMHD/EX/HDV/5d/7d/RED workflows
AVCHD is a consumer format. It worked in iMovie before FCP.

Color from Final Cut Studio was a 10.000 dollar color grading application.
And yes when you have a Mac, you'll get it almost for free!

As a long time windows user i think that OSX and FCS are the main reason to get a mac. Also it's nice to have dedicated hardware tuned on a dedicated operation system.
Macs are excellent production tools on multiple levels.

FCP also has excellent support for 3th party capture/playback hardware like AJA, Blackmagic Design and Matrox MXO.:kali:

As a photographer i use Lightroom. Adobe has just a better track record with photography and supporting raw photo formats.

cough cough. FCP has the WORST WORKFLOW when it comes to digital formats that are not h264!
P2? XDCam? We are lucky we can work with them. Try any other editing software and it will work better, faster and more robust!

I used Edius for instance and you can edit off the P2/XDcam cards in camera. No conversion, no quicktime-uses-double-HDspace, no time lost.

AVCHD works in FCP, but you need to convert it first or your machine will soon be overworked. That is the same with all the others editors BTW. Although they also use AVCHD, it is not a good idea to edit in it.

It's indeed never a good idea to edit in long gop Mpeg codecs.
That's why it's great that FCP uses a quicktime wrapper with the native codecs.

But FCP doesn't convert the files. It transcodes the MXF wrapper to a quicktime wrapper with the native shot codec.
This goes extremly fast on any intel machines.

It is possible to edit straigt MXF files when you have an MXF quicktime component.

I agree that improvements are still needed here and there but my system runs rock solid for about 3 years now without ever doing a clean install.

Doing projects from DV, DV50,DVCPROHD, XDCAM SD/HD/EX/RED/5D/Uncompressed HDSDI 4:4:4

I'm sure Edius is a wonderful system but FCP is definately a serious game player.
