T2i Aperture in manual mode

This might be a really stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. When shooting in manual mode on a t2i, should the aperture change the immediately after you set it, or only when you take the picture? I was doing some photography outside and I was having trouble achieving the depth of field I wanted. After awhile I figured out that what I was seeing in my liveview was just the exposure simulation, and the aperture wasn't actually changing as I changed it. I've never noticed this before, and I know it updates as you change it in video mode.

Thanks

When shooting stills using the OVF, only when you take the picture. When using live-view to take stills, no idea. When using live view to record video, IIRC, aperture changes when you set it. I haven't had a Canon DSLR for over a year, though, and this is very simple to test...

I've tested it and I know that it isn't changing when I use liveview, I just wanted to know if that's what it's supposed to do that since I've never noticed it before.

When taking photos, you can preview your aperture settings and Depth Of Field by temporarily pressing the DOF preview button. On the T2i this is located on the camera body, just below the lens release button on the front face of the camera body.
