Anything that can, Will go wrong!!!

Awesome, thanks for the words of momentum.
Got a pretty stupid question, I know what visual noise is, but what causes it? Low Light? I have noise up the cornholio and when I add the Magic bullet it dosent get any better, lol.

Generally, low-light and/or iris, gain, etc.

The old saying, "garbage in/garbage out" comes into play often in the filmmaking world...and I'm not saying you're putting out garbage at all. However, if you don't have a lot of light for the sensors to resolve you're in trouble from the beginning. Magic bullet isn't going to be able to work with something that isn't there. If you used too little light and not as much information is recorded then MB is just going to be tweaking what's not there.

Keep on working with it. Maybe you can "push" the footage you got and add some effect to all of it that will work with what you're trying to achieve. Then learn from what was done and move on.

Wash, rinse, but don't repeat. :)

PS-I'm not being smug, just trying to lighten what is certainly a dark part of your brain right now (assumption).
PSS-to really be able to even comment I should have asked to see a clip first. Post a clip and a lot of talented people can probably offer some advice for you.

Let me congratulate you on finishing which is more than most people ever do...there are thousands of people that will criticize or advise but most of them have nothing to show for it...at least you are not one of those that have their minds and computers littered with unfinished ideas, stories, concepts...you have made it to the precoious few that have something to show...Next, let me re-iterate that the comments about story are so true...content over tech ALWAYS...there are multi milliondollar movies that have the best DP's Editors even actors but like Batman 2 (oops did I say that) you want to walk out...think of the story and what you want to tell your audience...they are far more forgiving of production value than they are of a lousy story...

I just completed my second guerrilla film for $8,000 (the first was $5,000) both SAG and they have had 13 nominations and eight wins in only three fests... so far...The only equipment I used was a mike, a ninja, a house light, a tripod and a camera...trust me, it's the story...

I respect you as a doer...congratulations!

Rented a lighting package, but surprise, surprise! The guy prior to me blew the bulbs out... hahaha, oh yea and the leading supplier/distributer had nothing in stock... so I was forced to work with worklamps.
The rental didn't check them out between users? Hope the facility gave your money back. I have my own lights and help out some friends sometimes. Have been lucky but the last shoot was not good. Blew out fuses and did not have any (do now, but need to get more), blew out bulbs but the replacements were wrong (have plenty of the correct bulbs now). Still have to repair one light that they somehow caused to fall apart and a c-stand they somehow screwed up. Did a shoot last night where I used a florescent bulb in a china lantern, 100 watt because everything else got crushed. Found out you cannot dim a florescent light (at least not these kind).

Audio, was going to quote some but....
I am one of those people that like to own and control everything so I also have my own audio equiptment. Have a friend that helps me out on my shoots whom I have trained to work my eqiuiptment to my satisfaction. Cannot use him all the time though because of his day job. Anyways, on my friends shoot this past June (above, lights falling apart etc), he wanted to use my audio in addition to my lights. Now his previous movie I helped on he had paid director, dp, and sound guy. Granted they used several of the actors for the boom but they had a sound guy that could control everything and it went fine. This time Rey lined up an actor from the previous movie to do sound on this one. Then an actor did not show up** so this guy became an actor on the shoot. I showed up on set, not planning to do anything and they were setting the boom on the floor propped up by a pillow etc. and did not even have the headphones plugged in. So when I was not at my MFTT I had to mix and at times also run the boom. Did my MFTT and when I next showed up and asked about the audio they had grabbed anyone they could, including a 12 year old kid to boom. Rey said about 80% of the audio is good but I believe it to be much less than that.

Actors, They either will or won't show up. If they show up they may become a prima dona by the end of the shoot because "they are the star" of this production even though they have never acted before. (another problem with Rey's June shoot though most actors I have worked with are totally kool).

You can never plan enough. Just learn and plan better for the next shoot which will not be planned enough.

 Great advice and now that i know why MB is only working on certain shots (outside shots) i think I might just B&W it. I don't think theres another way to fix it. But if I can, i'll post a clip. Thanks again.

Right-o, I swear in my head this thing was friggin beautiful but as i shot it and then looked at the footage i was left wondering how the angles are all pergect in my head, yet I couldnt replicate them in real life. Next time It will be even better and the next after that... well you get it.

Everyone has been great, i love the feedback.
Keep em coming:thumbsup:

Thanks for the welcome...the title of your thread is actually a chapter in my book! I believe that resilience and knowlege is power, though, so knowing that what can go wrong will go wrong in advance, should give you the calm you need when the s... hits the fan. When you lead the project, everyone feeds from your energy and being passionate and excited in the face of adversity is not only admired, but infectious...

Keep moing forward,

Stan Harrington
