F5/F55 version 7 firmware comes out Jan 2016 http://community.sony.com/t5/F5-F55/NEW-Version-7-firmware-details-for-F5-F55/m-p/523722#U523722

In preparation for replacement / new F 65 successor in a F55 body with 8K sensor NAB 2016. At least that's the latest I've heard from my Sony contact. Take it with a grain of salt, but given yesterday's Canon announcement on the C500 8K replacement, this may turn out to be true, so expect a new F camera in 2016.

would be interesting to see if they will update the current bodies with new hardware ....

And if they would made f5/55 sensor upgrade path that would be fantastic. But it won't happen :/ 8K will require massive processing power.

Samsung nX1 does a 6K full sensor readout from a $1,500 body.

As to what's on the horizon - expect to see a lot of smokescreens.

All this talk about higher K but still few to no affordable 4K projectors on the market.

Sony's $8,000. Compare the price with a 100" LED TV.
