Anyone using Vista laptop for P2?

I would like to get a laptop to use for tranferring P2 cards to a HD but cannot
confirm if any software (Panasonic, P2 Genie, etc) is Vista compatible. I don't have a copy of XP to load on the new unit. Anyone using Vista?

Also- is the operating system a factor in whether I can move files around? In other words, can I plug
a P2 card into the PC slot of a Vista laptop and move the files to the HD without special software like P2 Genie?

Went to Circuit City and got them to let me plug the P2 card into a Vista laptop - did not recognize at all. So I bought one of the two XP equipped notebooks they had left, took
it home and installed the Panasonic drivers. I was figuring on using the internal HD to hold the files , then transfer to my Mac via a DVD (for a backup) but the 4.7 gig limitation knocked that out. Guess I will use the external USB drive that I use on my Mac , then plug back into the Mac to edit with FCP.

Geeez- I paid a $300 premium for an XP laptop over the lowest priced Vista model.
Got 4x the memory , 40gig more HD and better graphics though.

I actually did see that thread but was looking for more than one user saying Vista works before commiting.

I think you still got the better deal. Upgrading a laptop to have four times the memory (I assume 512MB vs. 2GB) and replacing the smaller hard drive with a larger one is easily worth $300. Not to mention that the built-in graphics usually can't be upgraded...

I use Vista to download p2 cards, but I don't have a PC slot, I plug the camera into the computer and have had no problems at all, downloads the cards hell of fast as well.

have ordered the dual adapter, and will let you know if that works.

I have a vista machine at work that I have had some problems installing the P2 drivers on. (Im an IT admin by day) The security and prompts are a pain in the butt. It really felt like i was trying to bomb a third world contry off the map and getting asked by my parents whether I really wanted to blow them away. Once I told vista that I did want to nuke third world country#1 the driver worked fine. I noticed no real problems verifying that the files were on my HD, although I never bothered installing a program to view the contents, I just verified that they were present.

Not trying to be a terd, but Im glad to hear that you got the XP laptop. Regardless of what the computer guys at circuit city and best buy tell you, Vista just has not had enough testing to be a viable option for mission critical work. You definitely made the choice I would have made. It is always better to play it safe, than to be sorry later on.

Exactly why I went that route - XP is long proven. I wanted to hear
several users say the drivers install in Vista with no problem, or just play it
safe and go XP. Virtually no software connected with this is even available for Vista yet, such as P2 Genie. Not to mention - I am familiar with XP and unfamiliar with Vista.

By the way, the Circuit City sales lady was very upfront about Vista not working with most existing software and advised me not to buy the $499 laptop because of inadequate (512) memory for Vista.

I bought a Toshiba laptop with Vista on it... i should have listened to myself.... Vista will not accept drivers for the P2 card and it it acts as if the card is there when inserted however the computer states drivers not found.....

I hate you microsoft... when will you simply stop playing around with OS!!!!!!!

There were a few XP laptops left on the shelves when I bought mine so I opted for one. Glad I did, P 2 drivers seem to work fine on it.
