C200: Anyone used the Sigma Cine Primes in EF on the C300 MKII or C200?

I currently have the Sigma Cine 105 T1.5 on demo directly from Sigma. Unfortunately I'm shooting all week with my F55 and 17-120 on a big shoot and we're leaving cameras built on-location and early crew calls and not getting home until at least dinner so I haven't been able to spend the time with it that I had hoped. But the time that I have gotten to spend with... It is a huge piece of glass that's fairly heavy, but not too heavy. Mechanically it's VERY nice. Iris and focus rings are nicely dampened. I have it in EF mount and it's very tight. Almost too tight for my Optitek adapter. But locks into my C300(and 5D) just fine. As far as the image, it looks great, just shooting objects. I haven't had a chance to put a person in front of it, yet. Hopefully I will get a chance before I have to send it back. So far there only two things that bug me about it. The front is 95mm, whereas ALL of my other Cine glass(6 Canon CN-E primes and 17-120) is 114mm, so you need different rings for your matte box. Not the end of the world, but something else to slow you down. And close focus is 3' 4", which is 1" further away than the CN-E 135.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to shoot with it this weekend. But so far, it's feeling like it may be my next lens purchase.

I know they're in another ballpark, but specifically how do the Sigmas differ from the Rokinons?
Sharper? Different character?
What's the difference in optics/mechanics? (I see 9 blades vs 8).
Any chance of comparison charts?

I’ve never shot with any of the Rokinons, but the Sigma I'm demo’ing is very sharp. That was actually one of the first things a friend said that has two sets at his job, they’re sharp. And the 9-blade aperture gives nice round OOF highlites, etc. So far, in my limited testing, it looks as good as the 11-blade aperture of my CN-E primes, at least WAO or close to WAO. Mechanically, it feels about as well built as any “real” metal bodied cine primes I’ve had my hands on.

I’m hoping to put a person in front of it this weekend and also compare it to my 85 and 135 Canon’s, which are my main two interview lenses and what I’d mainly be buying this one for.

Would be great if you can post some footage and or stills that compare the Sigma 105 to your Canons, if you have the time?

Super down 'n dirty. Grabbed some Christmas stuff out of the closet and set it on the table. The only light is the overhead above the table. I guess I could have shot this on my C300, but used my F55 since it's what I use the most for s35 shooting, now. All lenses shot wide open, since that's what every cares about ; ). I tried to roughly match exposure, but of course all three lenses have different T stops. Subject is 4.5' away, focus on the eye.

Specs:
Opened in Sony Catalyst Browse to Full Screen, Apple screen grab tool, converted to JPEG to upload. *Posted images are much softer that the original screen grabs.*
Camera:
F55, Abel Cine Standard Profile, Standard 5 Gamma, WB Preset 3200K, Optitek EF adapter, 1920x1080, 23.98, 1/48s, Full sensor scan.
Lenses:
Canon CN-E 85mm T1.3 at 500 ISO
Sigma Cine 105mm T1.5 at 640 ISO
Canon CN-E 135mm T2.2 at 1000 ISO

You could intercut these lenses seamlessly and probably never adjust a thing.

Have you done any tests against the CN-E primes from Canon? I am interested to know how these two lenses fair against one another.

Did you read Run&Gun's post, two posts up?

Canon doesnt make a 105mm CN-E Cine Prime so he could only compare it with the 85mm and 135mm Canons. I tested the 14mm, 50mm and 85mm Sigmas against Canon still lenses of the same length but I didn't have access to the CN E Cine Primes.

From the limited comparing that I did with the one Sigma lens that I had for demo(I would not really call it a test and I didn't get to put a person in front of it), they should intercut with no problems. And the Sigma's feel like they are built like tanks. There are a few design quirks that I don't like(like the 95mm front diameter so it throws a small monkey wrench into mattebox world), but image quality and feel/operation of the focus and iris are great.

Look back up a few posts and the screen grabs are from my CN-E's and the the Sigma with each grab labeled and the shooting specs above the grabs. After uploading the images to DVX, they are much lower quality and softer than the original images, so keep that in mind. But you can see that everything seems to match-up pretty well.

Although Sigma was very generous with the time they let me keep the lens, unfortunately it didn't line up with a real shoot that I could use it on or with me having a lot of free time to really play with it a lot. But I liked what I saw.
