Anyone used the Sigma 17-50 2.8 OS lens?

Today i got the Sony Alpha 16-50 2.8 with the LA-EA2 adapter. On the FS700 i like it quite a bit. AF tracks my dog running around pretty well, much better than the E mount lenses.

However, i kind of miss Optical Stabilization. The Sigma 17-50 2.8 has it built in the lens, but i passed on it figuring the IQ on the SAL1650 is supposed to be better over all.

Anyone use the Sigma 17-50 2.8 OS HSM on the FS100 or 700? Would love any opinions on it. Or even if you think the OS is even worth giving up the SAL1650 for (wouldn't keep both!).

I have used both the Sigma 17-50 and the Sony 16-50 on my FS100. The Sigma OS is not very effective. In fact it's so subtle that if you Google the discussion about this, a lot of people looking at footage were not sure whether the lens was stabilized via the Sony adapters at all. That's even though people who owned this lens insisted that the OS works. I myself can confirm that OS works but is very subtle. It cancels out only the most minor tremors.

It's not even remotely comparable to the Active OSS of the SEL18200. I also remember the lens being a bit front-heavy on my FS100. I'd say stick with the 16-50.

Also, you might want to consider the Canon 17-55mm IS via Metabones adapter.

here's a review we did of the lens, it's the Canon mount version on a DSLR but it may interest you because we show various examples with it.

Like someone mentioned, the OS is very subtle for video, it's more usable for photography.

Great replies everyone, thanks for the info. I think i will stick with the SAL1650, really liking it a lot and if i do need OS at times i also have the 18-200 kit lens. Shame the Sigma OS is a bit weak, but also glad in a way because i won't feel i'm missing out!

Sorry for bringing a thread back from the dead. Which adapter did you use for your FS100? I've been using a Fotga adapter but it will not work with my 17-50 OS.
