Anyone use the new 64GB SDXC cards yet?

Was curious if anyone had used one of these yet. I couldn't remember if these were class 4 or 6 so I'm not sure if these were gonna be fast enough for 1080p video. Thanks!

They come in Class 4 and Class 6 models, but SDXC cards are designed to be faster than SDHC. However, what would be the point? A lot of people are uncomfortable with using 32GB cards (card failure means more footage lost), so I would imagine that most people would consider 64GB to be way overkill. The cheapest SDXC card costs well over $200 at the moment, and you can get a Class 10 SDHC card for under $100.

I was unaware people were uncomfortable using 32gb cards. I currently use two 32gb cards as well as a few 16gb cards and haven't had an issues (knocks on wood), all Sandisk if that matters. I've heard of all size cards going bad but 32 no more than any other size. I think its important to buy a card from a reputable manufacturer than some fly by night one. I guess the point of a 64gb for me would be simple, the convenience of more space on a single card. And I usually keep footage on them as long as possible just in case I need to reupload to computer. Is it that different than wanting to buy a larger hard drive? Plus, the less I have to carry around, the better.

You seem to misunderstand the issue. It's not about whether some cards are more likely to fail or fail more frequently than others. It's about the consequences of failure.

Consider this: If a 64GB card dies, then you lose up to three hours of footage. If a 16GB card dies, then you lose much less than an hour of footage. So it's a matter of having more eggs in one basket. Since you can't predict when your card will die, do you really want to take that sort of risk?

Awhile back I loaded up a 16GB card completely full (still photos) on a T2i that I borrowed from my work and was in the process of getting them on the computer. Make a long story short I took the SD Card out of the camera in my den and was walking with it to my computer room when I decided to stop in the bathroom and pi**.

I didn't want to chance setting the card down on anything that was wet in the bathroom so while I was doing my thing I put it between my lips for safekeeping. Well here I am all done and flushing the toilet when for a split secound I forgot the card was between my lips and I coughed. Down it went....

Over 700 photos from a Mammoth Mountain ski trip bye bye.

I'm only mentioning it here for the humor in it. I still buy big cards...lol
