ALL: Anyone know where the Panasonic AC-160 & AC-130 Factory is located?

Does anyone know the country and location of the factory making these new Panasonic camcorders? I am wondering if the factory might be in either Japan or Thailand. I don't believe that Japan is still that much recovered from the Tsunami, and that could then explain why the AC130 is being released later.

But if the factory is in Thailand, that could be a real significant problem.

Has anyone that has worked with the AC160 noticed on the camera what country it says that it is built in?

I don't know, but my 160 has kind of a strange glow when it's in a dark room… and a strange clunking sound…

It's very common for stabilised lenses to make a clunking sound when shaken while powered down. Some people were worried about the noise when the HMC150 was released.

And when the HVX200 was released... and when the DVX100 was released.... I think "What's that clunk?" was the first sticky here!

The clunking sound...that famous, horrifying beast that shook the hearts of so many men 10 years ago when the DVX100 boxes started showing up on our doorsteps.

Some really funny (and mean) posts from folks around here trying to mess with newbies who hear the clunk sound ("you need to submerge it in 10 inches of warm water" being one of the more mean-spirited solutions).

But yeah, it's a well known "problem" and is nothing to be concerned about. Goes away when you turn the camera on. Comes back when you turn it off.

Ah, yes, I am aware of this issue from using other equipment. I bought a stabilized Nikkor AF-S 16-85mm f/3.5-f/5.6 DX VR lens for my Nikon D90, and noticed the exact same symptom with it.

My HVX200 and my HMC151 has the same clunking sound. As soon as you power it on it stops.

Actually I would get worried if I didn't hear the clunk when powered off =P
