Anyone having card speed issues, please try again without native 24p

I specially bought a new card, sundisk class 10 16 gig.

50,56,60, Native 24p/25p > FHP is not working ( freeze with card error "motion stopped due to card limitation bla bla)

also the same with B setting.

Nothing else fail, but if it fail from this chart, it can fail unexpectedly on important shooting...

What is going on here???

Hi Adys, PAL or NTSC of your camera?

[50,56,60] seems work in PAL well. For NTSC, please try car3o setting...

Native 24p
Video bitrate adjustment - 40000000
Overall bitrate adjustment - 46000000
Limiting bitrate adjustment - 50000000

I am NTSC camera, with patch to PAL.

Just to be clear, its only failing with the chart on tripod, but I am worry that in will happen when I will photo something important...

I will try that tonight and update results.

Thanks!

Again, what to do with the L and H patches?

Video Bitrate Adjustment H
Video Bitrate Adjustment L

?

Leave them unchecked?

i have no fail at all with this setting [50,56,60] even with class 4 and as i mentioned, i want to duplicate all case of failure to make sure this setting is stable enough.

i had tested many footages but no chart on tripod.

Can you give me detail of it for how long you get take? print out or shoot chart on monitor? how long you get fail etc. for me testing, thanks

Photo the chart from LCD screen , any ISO, 50 shutter or 60, 20 mm lens, tripod and manual focus.

In C setting, after 3 seconds there is freeze error "card limitation bla bla" ( I have the best card available in the market - SUNDISK CLASS 10 16 gig)

In B setting, after 10-15 seconds.

Didn't try in A, but with no AVCHD patch at all, and with native 24 patch, it does not happen at all.

I did photo things with a lot of detail and nothing happed, its only the graph that make it fail.

One more point, when you photo the graph, there is an illusion that the grid lines are elliptic.

As I know, the camera have some perspective correction build in on the fly, maybe its connected also to this and not only to the level of details...

if you have SunDisk ... that seems not the best on market, only if SanDisk

in any case - measure real write performance of card ...

what's your full checkboxes/parameters configuration ?
possible also you lifted audio ...
and also - nothing written ? may be small file exist ?

version change
version simple
30 limit removal
native
ntsc to pal

mpeg -> 24fps

All AVCHD fields are set to C ( also tested all for B)

no audio lifted ( I really don't understand why someone want to do so)

file in size zero

Yes that is exactly what will happen. That's what this whole thread is about.

Most people CAN use the Native 24p and high bitrates as long as the camera shots are not static. That means as long as something in the frame is moving(or the camera itself is moving) that you will NOT get the "card speed error".

When you put it on a tripod and shoot the chart or other highly detailed static scene you will get strange artifacts where the bitrates of I frames will be excessively high. This causes most cards to fail. The "Sandisk 30mb/s" cards can sort-of handle it, but you have to understand that this is a BUG, it is NOT normal of the firmware to be doing this and therefor it is NOT normal to need such a card as the Sandisk 30mb/s to handle it.

I hate to say it but just don't use the Native 24p and you will not have many other problems.

quick report

shooting the chart on tripod seems obtain write error at FHD but over 10 seconds, the longest shoot about 30s.

but no error on SH shoot 1 min, stopped manually.

I've had it take longer sometimes. Let it run for at least 2 minutes.

Maybe Panasonic knew what they where doing after all...

So what is the main purpose to use this hack?

shoot the chart created high bitrate to the camera initially (according to the streameye figures), as a result we got write error.

meanwhile, it made me understood the limitation of FHD mode. i feel comfort to take it and shoot around cos create this kind of high bitrate scene is not easy.

That is not reliable.

If in C setting, or even B, the camera will not freeze for a list one month of massive photography, then OK.

Until then, you can't know whenever it will happen where you are in the middle of important shooting...

What can be done, is to take extra card with "original" firmware (unchecked all or at list native) to save the day in case that anything go wrong.

What I really want to know, if that native patch is dispensable?
I mean for quality and mud, can we do without it?

Any why the mpeg is going for 1440, I didn't understand.. can I go FHD with MPEG, so maybe this will replace the AVCHD and behave like native?

The big questions is:

Are we really getting real quality improvement from this hack that worth to through away camera reliability?
100% crops that I can hardly see the difference is not enough...

i patched to NTSC with [50,56,60] and experienced the meaning of unstable. it fail unexpected even normal scene. compare to NTSC, these setting under PAL (excuse that this is my definition) seems stable enough to my useage with almost mud free AVCHD.

Past two weeks, i keep my eye on every footages (i shoot every day) with streameye to see the bitrate reach the max or not. under normal circumstances, it is very difficult to reach the max bitrate expect shooting the chart even tsunami pan on grasses(high detail), fast shutter, native 25p as well.

Again, i had settled down in this setting and keep tracking on it, stay turn for my further finding or failure report.

Bad news guys...
After many tests and the last one with native25p and 50/56/60 who was working yesterday, I tried this morning again with same bitrates and you know what : freezing after 5, 10, 15 or 20 seconds...
Just to remember my card is a Sandisk Extreme class 6, 16 GB and my GH1 is a PAL.
Getting nuts.
So i went to my dealer and bought a new Sandisk Extreme class 10, 16 GB.
Results : worth... Freezing as I pushed the start button...
I used same lens, same 1/50 shutter and 125 or 200 ISO...
Crazy.
So I am tired to go forth and back with changing the hack and my decision is now to shoot with 60/62/70 and NO NATIVE !!!!
Listen to me guys, do the same and you will be more calm and rested.
Perhaps one day Tester sorry Vitaliy Liselev !!! or somebody arround him his going to find the solution but so far I dont wanna go nuts in the middle of a shooting.
Good luck guys and if you get some ideas (and a tru solution) dare to tell me (and us). From Paris with Love !

that's really bad news

any bitrate information regarding to your footage bitrate tested by streameye? are they normal shoot or high detail?

Have you reformatted the card after getting an error? I have found that if the card gets fragmented it doesn't just degrade performance - it devastates it. That might explain why you are suddenly getting so many errors in a row.
