Anyone have luck with buying a reconditioned Nikon lens.

I am interested in getting a 70 - 200mm f/2 lens. I saw some places have a reconditioned lens sometimes for 500 to 600 dollars cheaper. The new lens I think has a 5 year warranty, and a reconditioned has a 90 day warranty. Some say with reconditioned that the company personally looks over it and checks it carefully.
Any thoughts about buying a reconditioned lens.

I bought a reconditioned Ipad and never had problems with it. Hope this would be the same as Nikon.
Thanks

I think it depends on how much abuse your lens is going to take. With AF and VR if you're going to be using the lens rather hard, then I'd suggest getting new. I've have never heard of anyone having a problem with reconditioned Nikon gear, but to be honest, not a lot of reconditioned stuff is sold. BTW, I think you mean f/2.8.

I've bought several digital bodies reconditioned, including my latest D7100. "Reconditioned" just means returned to Nikon. Could be a purchase, a display item, something sent for reviews or tests. But they're checked out and have the same FACTORY NIKON warranty (not aftermarket or store warranty)... generally if it lasts the warranty period it doesn't have issues. Good experiences here, and you can save some decent cash.
