Anyone get an iPAd yet?

[1] Apple has always done things different, and for good reason - they are visionaries.

[1.5] They see what could be rather than what is. Sometimes that means they jump the gun and are the earliest to market

[2] but they are rarely wrong.

[3] AppleTV - bad, or early?

[1] Visionaries?/done things different? thats an over statement:

To give an example, technically Apple didn't create the first GUI, nor did they create the first touch screen.

What they did do, is looked at the current technologies then copied them, and executed them better (e.g. looked at the flaws, and then designed them to overcome them).

That's not visionary, that's arguably what Microsoft does, and its what Google is doing.

[1.5] Ipod --> there was a LOT of portable MP3 players before Ipod arrived, so nothing new but executed well

Iphone --> just an over glorified PocketPC Phone. I was installing, surfing, doing pocket office, email, satelite navigation, taking digital photos, videos and making calls on a PocketPC Phone a long while before the Iphone existed. Again nothing new, just executed well

[2] Apple have had a lot of failures: here is a short list:

Apple Newton;
Pippin;
PowerMac G4 cube;
Apple Lisa;
Copland OS;
MacIntosh Portable;
eWorld;
Apple TV;
PowerBook Duo;
Mac Performa Series;
Apple 'puck' mouse;

[3] Bad yes, early NO, compared to HTPC which started a long while before the Apple TV came on the scene. Its daft to even begin to compare HTPC's to apple TV

Well said.

I'd say these were ahead of their time. Especially the newton's handwriting recognition. The mac mini is what the G4 Cube was supposed to be. eWorld was just awesome... one of the earlier GUI online communities.

Pippin;
Apple 'puck' mouse;
Copland OS;

These were outright piles of fail. Good riddance.

Apple Lisa;
MacIntosh Portable;
Apple TV;
PowerBook Duo;
Mac Performa Series;

I am not sure I'd go so far as to call these failures. Most of these paved the way for better products.. Lisa -> Macintosh.. Mac Portable -> Powerbook etc..

Three million units old in two months.

I wish I had a couple of failures like that.

:)

Exactly, I read yesterday that some analysts are now predicting 2 million iPad sales a month after they roll it out in 9 more countries later this month.

Who said the iPad was a failure... did I miss something here?
Anhar was just addressing Filmguy123's comments.

It's interesting to see all the different viewpoints people have based on their
own consumer loyalties. I personally don't care who's name is on it as long as it's the
right tool for the job.

....and I'm holding out for a few more versions of the iPad before considering a purchase.

Who said that my viewpoint is based upon my consumer loyalty? I buy based on features and performance, et al., not consumer loyalty.

I would use a broom to create and watch videos if it worked well.

Heads up to anyone who has an iPad, the new 3.2.1 update is out.

I upgraded the other night and it's now about 30% faster for both wifi and running apps.

It's sweet!
