GH4 Anyone film corporate work/commercials/talking heads?

Just wanted to compare looks and sharpness. They were shot a week apart. Overall, I think I am liking the Nikon and Speedbooster better but it all depends on the shoot. I shot some outdoor stuff in bright sunlight with the Metabones and the Nikon and it looked like crap, tons of CA everywhere. But then again, the lens is 1970s tech, lens coatings were not that great in the 70s. The Oly looks much better outdoors than the Nikon but for interviews, I am favoring the Nikon 50mm 1.4 and the Nikon 85mm 1.8 with the Metabones.

+1

I am using the same Nikon lenses, though mine are 1980's - 1990's vintage. ( 50mm f/1.4 AI-S and 85mm f/2.0 AI-S )

I find that the SpeedBoosted Nikons are more flattering for interviews, where my Pansonic lenses are just too sharp. ( I don't need to see every line and crack in my subject's face )

I discovered the same thing TheDingo, those Olympus lenses are really sharp too. Can look good in a wider framed interview but for MCUs and CUs, I just end up softening in post so why not just shoot it a bit softer with the Nikons?

I shot the interviews for the recent "Dick Cavett's Watergate" that aired on PBS a few weeks ago in SoCal and is airing on PBS nationally right now. My only shots in the trailer are of Nixon White House Council John Dean and Washington Post Reporter Carl Bernstein. Dean was shot with a Nikon 50mm 1.4 AI with the Metabones Speedbooster and Bernstein was shot with the Olympus 45mm 1.8. Stil working on my looks with the GH4 but the director and producer were very happy with the results.

Beautiful! the shot at 25s is what I'm looking for! thanks for sharing

Yes Chris, very nice, and great work on the Ronin!

Also, what aerial cam and what bounce on the model?
dji phantom w/ H3-3D gimbal. GoPro protune on AWB. 2.7k 30p. ND filter attached to GoPro. The high air shots are the Gh4 w/ 14-140 using the Kenyon K6 gyro hand held.
The bounce is a simple two side silver/white collapsible 48in using the silver side. Got some fludder but we didn't want to draw too much attention with the California sun bounce.

Making that effect is not a SLIDER effect but a PAN effect. It´s the same as panning your cam.

Maybe if you're panning with a long lens, but if you're panning with a wide-angle it will look different than sliding your HD frame around inside a static 4K image area. ( definitely no motion-blur in the cropped 4K panning shot )

Doesn't make a difference. You can spot it immediately since the relationship of background to foreground and the way they interact is very specific when using a slider.

Although we've drifted off topic from the OP's original request for head-shot kinds of images, not just making works for hire, nor copter shots, etc.

I agree with his excitement over the Bob Woodward interview, although I think he failed to realize that the poster of the trailer hadn't actually shot that segment. But IMO it still matched up nicely with the Bernstein and Dean clips.

Wait so was that shot not with the GH4? That was the only shot that had the look i am going for. I didnt see lower thirds so didnt know who was who in the interviews

From my reading of the contributors notes, Bernstein is at 2.56 and I believe, although I’m not completely sure, Dean is at 0.47. I don't know what Woodward's clip was shot on.

The Woodward shot stands out because it's lit very well. Shots like that are very possible with large-sensor-anything Canon, Nikon, Sony, Blackmagic, Red, and yes, Panasonic as well. All you have to do is position your subject and light and lens it properly to get the look you want. The camera hasn't been the issue for a long time now.
