Anyone else waiting for the 60d?

Not fussed with the autofocus and fps of the 7d, but I would like the option of ISO values inbetween 100/200/400... as well as a more durable body, hopefully better low light performance etc. It should be a fair bit cheaper than the 7d and must be due before long, probably at the same time as the 600d which will presumably use the same sensor.

A 60D with a more durable body than the 7D or 5D? and cheaper? I've never seen a magnesium body camera new for less than $1500

The 60d won't be more durable than the 7d, I was comparing it to the 550d. I already have a HMC151 and I my Mrs has a 5d which I can borrow, so it's not as if I'm not shooting stuff at the moment :)

The 50d costs about 6-700 GBP (about $900), the 60d will cost a bit more to begin with, but less than the 7d as it is lower down the range. Of course, the 50d has no video capability, but it is a magnesium bodied camera and is quite durable, I used to have a 40d which is very similar and the durability was similar to the 5d TBH.

PS, just checked my original post, it did sound like I meant the 60d would be more durable then the 7d, but that wasn't what I meant, sorry. I was meaning compared to the 550d.

Collectors and shooters

Collectors and shooters

In the gun world there are two kinds of people…gun collectors and hunters. For gun collectors the gun is the most important thing, while they may hunt they are more concerned with the gun itself. The hunters on the other hand belive the hunt is the important thing, and while they may collect guns it is more incidental.
The same thing exists in the camera world…we have collectors, who want to make sure they have the best camera they can afford and get all the accoutrements such as follow focus, rails, matteboxes etc. For the collector the camera is the end, and while they may shoot, they mainly shoot test footage. The shooters on the other hand just need to have a good camera and it is simply a means to an end. Some collectors will wait for the right camera to come along (Scarlet, etc) and a shooter usually can’t afford to wait.
So the decision is kind of where you find yourself between a collector and a shooter, and really no one can give you advice on that.

Dang man. That's some deep Sugar Honey Iced Tea!!!!

I think I'll marinate on that for a bit!!

so does this mean 60d's gonn a have better vid or what? i need to preorder it for a film i might do. one day.

It's not going to be any more superior than existing cameras. Why would they choose to improve the quality of the video on a mid range camera when they could release it on a top of the line (1D) and make 3-4 times more money. They know they have people hooked now, and for people to go from a 5D or 7D to a 60D would be a step down/side grade at best.

If you're gonna wait for anything, it's the Epic or Scarlet cameras from RED. Otherwise you might as well go out right now and buy a 550D because it's going to have relatively the same video as the 60D will have.

I think it will be very similar to the 7d from a video point of view, maybe slightly better high ISO. Price wise it would be between the 550d and the 7d. There will probably be a 600d around the same time, probably with the same sensor. I have seen some rumours that both new cameras might have articulating screens which would be nice.

I'm definitely not a collector BTW, all my gear is for a purpose and has to earn its keep r it goes on eBay :) , but if a new model is imminent, I am happy to make do with what I've got sometimes, if I think it will be worth the wait.
