Anyone buying a Canon XH A1?

Not sure if the group buy idea is still alive, but I have to drop out. Traded in my DVX100B at Adorama in New York and got the A1.
If anyone is interested in doing the same, Adorama was very generous on their buyback of the 100B (MUCH better than B&H), expecially if you plan on trading it in for the A1.

do you mind me asking how much they give you for the dvx100b? And or, how much, once traded, is needed to pay off the A1?

I doubt if it's a hoax since the original poster wouldn't get anything out of it. I'm pretty sure he's still waiting for responses from the various authorized dealers. It's a sound idea. If we can really get a decent deal at around $3500 (since the One Stop Camera place seemed to be hit-and-miss in term of customer service) from a reputable dealer then I'm very interested.

Srry guys been busy because of finals but I've been talking to a few vendors and I think I might have a good price for us. Not sure though yet, its kind of hard because I think alot of vendors simply don't reply to emails or are very slow at responding to them. But yea, this GB is still going on, and hopefully I will be able to get some solid pricing by early next week.

Looks like the guy organizing this has disappeared; so the next best opportunity may be with one of the forum sponsors.

He contacted us, I called him and left a message. No callback and that was 2 weeks ago.

If this group buy is still alive, I need two A1s.

Why not find a supplier and arrange a buying discount code. Anyone from this forum approaching this vendor with this code is then eligible for the arranged discount. (option 1)

Option 2 would be to arrange a buying cut-off date with the vendor..."so many A1s will be purchased by X date with a sliding scale discount in effect"

Not sure if this falls within the policies of this forum...Get the supplier to address options in this section?

Hope this works !!!

After reviewing the (PAL) XH-A1, I bought this cam for research and 'scratch-pad' work, its image quality combined with handy format and tape system (cheap long format shooting & happy archiving) made it easy to go for.

I thought it was a hoax at first. He asked for a quote on 10 cameras, and I gave it to him. He then asked for a quote on 20 cameras, right after the first quote. He didn't mention that it was DVXusers purchasing them. I found out that this was the same group after I sold an A1 to someone on the list that needed one immediately. I emailed solipsis back after I sold another A1 to another person on his list to confirm that this was his buy-in, and he confirmed. I guess he's still waiting to hear from other dealers.

Just to speed things along a bit, can all the dealers on here that has already been approached by solipsis state the group-buy price that they quoted him?

Is anyone still interested in this, or has everyone on the original list already purchased the camera independently?

i've yet to purchase. i was hoping we could get this group purchase going, i also have another friend that is wanting in on this but isnt a dvx user.

I'm looking to purchase the A1 in a about two weeks and I would love to keep this group buy idea alive. So if other people are still willing to give it a go, PM me and we'll start all over. I'll contact all the dealers (one has already told me that he's willing to go $3500 for a 10-20 person deal) and get back to you.

I plan on buying an A1 very soon. Obviously it would be great to me to get the camera for $3500 or less, but unless there is significant interest in this group buy within the next few days, I'm just going to go ahead and buy it individually. The extra savings won't be worth it if I have to sit around waiting on a group buy for a few weeks, especially if it won't pull through. It seems so far we have 6 counting manglerBMX's friend, and 7 if CanonVideoMan still needs one (can't tell from his two recent posts in this thread). That's pretty close to 10 if 10 is the minimum we need.

Then there's the issue of how to pay. The "group discount code" idea sounds the best to me, since then we won't have to wait for everyone to send their money to one person who we all trust enough to not run off with it, which seems time consuming. However, I'm not sure if the coupon code idea would fly with a distributor, since they have no guarantee that everyone who said they will order will order. Thoughts?

Barry told me that California has a 3% sales tax for video equipment instead of the usual 8.25% (I live in California as well). I think that $3500 is a pretty good price. Coffee got his from 1 Stop Camera, which doesn't exactly have a good rep as far as costumer services go even though they're an authorized Canon dealer. Quite a few people would rather pay the extra for the peace of mind.

I think that the group discount code think is definitely the way to go. Sounds like there's still quite a bit of interest on the group buy but people are just skeptical. Like I said, those who are definitely interested in the next 2-3 weeks (I'm purchasing mine in 2 weeks) please PM me so that I have a definite list. I participate in the forum regularly and I can promise you that I won't leave you hanging.

The link for the California tax break:

It is a 5% tax-break.

Here is a link to a site showing tax breaks & exemptions for all states:

This way, you can research, and see if the break or exemption in your area applies to you.

Also, in response to a comment made earlier about getting the XH-A1 for $3,300-that's going to be hard...considering $3,300 is below dealer's cost.
