Anyone able to balance 7D and tokina 11/16 with z finder/manfotto394 steadicam merlin

Having trouble balancing my 7D with tokina 11 16 lens with z finder and manfrotto 394 quick release plate. Has anyone succeeded? or can I only get balance without the z finder and 394 plate? Thanks
 
Why would you use the z- finder? You can't really have your eye right up to it while you're running around. Iv gotten mine to work without the quick release. It's a pain though, and you have to make constant adjustments because it likes to twist a little bit. I used 3 mids and a finisher on the bottom and one mid and finisher in the middle. Mounted in "o" I think and moved back to accommodate the lens hood. With the quick release you may have to adjust the arc a little longer, since the center of gravity will be a little higher
 
I also don't see why you would want the finder attached. Just set focus and forget it. I bought some lead weights at a sporting goods store and taped them to the rig to get a borrowed dv sportster to work. The T2i was just too light.
 
Not intending to use it with the z finder itself just the z finder plate and bracket then the quick release 394 so that I can change quickly between rigs. Just cant seem to get balance on it may have to revert to the slow changeovers
