Anybody try RPlens.com?

Hey guys, just found out about this lens site today called RPlens.com

They sell modified sets of Nikon and Canon still lenses specifically for digital video use, they show them being used on 35mm adapters such as the P+S Technik adapter.

I thought the Nikons would be a great starting set for those waiting for the RED zoom lens later in 2007.

Sorry if this site has already been discussed, but like I said, I just found out about them today.:)

Interesting, but that is one hell of a mark up. That Nikon lens set can be bought on E-Bay or KEH for around $1100, and he's selling it for $4000!
The focus gears can be bought from Red-rock for $60 each and 52-62 & 62-82mm (85mm OD for standard matte boxes) step up rings are $10 each. So add it all together and you can assemble the same exact set for $1500.
How's this for a deal, I'll make you the same lens set and add an 18mm f3.5 and sell it to you for $3000.
We got a deal?

Hmmm... that's interesting. However, I would think that the lenses being sold are already in stock and modified already? I was mostly wondering if anybody had tried them out.

They are not rehoused lenses, so it hardly seems worth the investment. Like I said, I'd do the same deal for $1000 less, test all the lenses and provide 12mp sample files to prove resolving power and edge to edge sharpness. I've been shooting Nikon glass for 15 years I know how to spot a dud. And his add-ons look like nice machined metal but I doubt they work any better than Redrocks.

Not to mention that the 24mm f2 is not sharp enough wide open for Red, the 24mm 2.8 is a better choice, the 50mm 1.4 is much superior to the F2, the 85mm f2 is mediocre compared with either the 1.8 or 1.4. I could go on and on about the best Nikon glass for Red. But there is a whole mile long thread I started on it months ago.

So let me know when you wan to order? OK? :dankk2:

Hi Evinsky,

You have some obvious experience and expertise regarding Nikons. I might just take you up on that offer of assembling a clean set of primes for me. Where is that thread on NIkon glass that you mention?

Thanks,
