I'm curious to what people are doing in europe at the moment to utilise the HD formats from the HVX.
Most of the work i've done so far has been DVCpro50 or downconverting from 720 untill the apple update at least. When the update comes i'll be doing lots of vari framerate work but am unsure if anything will stay in HD for long as i'll most probably just downconverting for sd dvd etc.
Has anybody got a good HD output at the moment or are we all pretty much waiting for HD-DVD's and the like?

I'm working professionally with the HVX for TV commercials in asia. I'm mainly shooting 1080p25, with very satisfactory results. I've done two major TV Spots with the HVX, and both of them turned out looking fantastic. Bare in mind that they where both edited in High end editing suites (Da Vinci Telecine), Smoke for effects.

The HVX footage maintained the details of the picture when overexposed and underexposed. The colors where very good to work with. One of the projects I did had to mix footage from the HVX, Betacam SP, Betacam Digital, DVCPRO 50 and mini-dv. After telecine, everything looked great. The most impressive was how The HVX survived color correction. A lot better than DV, which proved to be a pain in certain shots.

To do draft work, I edit on my Powermac g5 with fcp 5.04, with no problems.

For event coverage, which is part of my work, Simply editing in fcp dvcpro hd timeline and then downrez to Pal for dvd produces excelent results. The biggest investment ended up being on the purchase of external Hard Drives. Currently, I have 1.75 terabytes of storage, and its proving to not be enough. (One needs a master drive and a backup, just in case :) )

Hope this helps.

EDIT- The post houses haven't really catched up with the P2 workflow over here yet. I had to do a firewire stream of my footage from the camera to a DVCPROHD DECK and then they used the HD-SDI out from the deck to stream to their Da Vinci system. Don't know If I'm loosing anything here in therms of color, but I couldn't make it work immediately from the MXF to the editing environment. The DVCPRO HD Deck also had some problems with my HVX footage (somethimes the footage would jump). This was a AJ-HD1400. Could there be a problem with the post house deck?

EDIT AGAIN- Just got confirmation from Panasonic HK that you can't stream directly from the DVCPRO HD DECK to the output signal. You have to first record the Firewire signal to tape, then output.
