GH3 Any word on GH3 cage?

As of yet, no word on a custom cage from ReWo, Gini or Dcage. Has anyone seen or know anyone making a custom fit GH3 cage out there with rod support?

Interested as well. Wooden Camera? MOVCAM. You know there are so many accessories for the black magic camera and it hasn't even started shipping en masse yet.

I don't know - there are so many cages out there that fit the GH3 I wonder what the point is of having one that only fits the GH3. Look at folks who bought a GH2-only cage... now their GH3 most likely won't fit. I guess I'm not clear on the concept - you're paying often considerable money to buy a cage that is limited to only one camera model. Cameras are obsolete so soon. Then you're stuck buying another cage anyway. And what's the big advantage of a GH3-only cage vs cage that fits more cameras? Here's one I bought and it fits most DSLRs on the market:

Photography and Cinema Cage.

Of course, I could be missing something in the GH3-only cage, so this is my opinion only.

I'd like to see a dedicated GH3 cage that was compact & form fitting, but it have to allow the LCD full articulation or I'd likely pass.

I'd also like a quick release top handle for it.

Yep, I saw the "Jake" cage but its not very form fitting. We really need cages that are very tight that ONLY fit the GH3 just as with our D|Cage GH2 cages. BUT... I did just emailed Jake and will hopefully purchase one of his GH3 cages to try out. Though it's not completely form fitting it does look like a solid cage. I'll let you all know...

Because when you use expensive lenses, matteboxes, field monitors on mutiple rigs, etc... and your filming in underground tunnels in Jersalem and around stone ruins... you want your camera to be as secure as possible. Our little GH2 rig with the D|Cage was put through the ringer during our last production trips in Israel and Turkey and it was really solid, small and took plenty of hits against rocks/walls etc...

We've used other cages that arent tight fits or have multiple mounting points (including a $550 redrock micro cage) and it was terrible. Every 10 minutes we had to keep tightening the GH2s back down because of constant twisting/loosening and on a couple of occasions, it almost fell off completely while running. Also, cages that arn't customized tend not to have the openings like battery compartments that make swapping cards, batteries etc easy.

FYI: we just got our GH3s and new 35-100m Lumix lenses in today and I see why there's extra room on top of the GH3 cage. The knobs are much closer to the top portian of the camera than they were with the GH2. I've emails Jake cause I'm convinced he easily has the best GH3 cage on the market right now and we can't wait any longer... heading to Egypt and Japan soon.

...For example... here's a shot of one of our cheaper/older GH2 rigs and it was a little cumbersome during run-n-gun filming because there's no anti-twist or hotshow mounting. I preferred the cheaper $400 D|Cage which is what we use noe for these older rigs.

I just bought this same one myself.
Quick question b/c I am new to DSLRs and cages.
What adaptor/attachment do I need to use to secure regular "hotshoe" accessories like lights, mics, etc?
I need to attach a receiver, mic, and light to my cage.

Just search ebay for "hot shoe mount" there are a number of different styles, starting at around $2.00. But also check you accessories as some may have 1/4" threads, then you just need a 1/4"-20 screw.

It sounds like Gini Rigs are making one as soon as they can get a GH3 in hand to measure. Absolutely love my Gini cage for the GH2

I`d also prefer a low profile slim-fit cage. Of course a broader frame gives more protection, but I wouldn't want to loose the small footprint of the GH3. I'd also like to still be able to use the camera's grip, thus the need for a tight fit to grip cage and grip camera grip...

Great to hear! I've messaged Jake multiple times for his $560 cage, asking to buy 2 of them asap but he just doesn't responce so I assume the project is dead. I guess here's looking forward to the Gini cage.

UPDATE: I just got an email from Jake for the GH3 cage and though I'm in California, I gave him a quck call in the UK. Very nice guy and has been very busy lately. I purchased 2 cages from him and they're shipping out tomorrow. He still has several of the prototype cages left so if you're interested, I'm sure 'now' is the time to contact him.

The 2 cages just showed up and WOW, they are much better than I thought they would be, even at about $550 per cage it was worth every penny. I'll take some photos and write up a full review soon!
