Any way to protect the firewire when tethered?

I am thinking about just buying an HVX and a Macbook until the 16gb cards are in stock. I would tether via the fireweire, yes? So is there any product or procedure for protecting the connectors?
 
the 16gigs will be out in a few weeks. seems kind of silly to tether yourself to some expensive great boat anchor all the time. hows thatgoing to work in the field?

not to say that a macbook isnt a darned cool thing to have around anyway : )

i say get yourself a couple of 4gig cards to pass the time
