Any way to Extract P2 card clips?

I am searching for a way to extract my P2 card clips.
The reason for that is that I made too many backups and now only want to keep 1 clip each and no duplicate. To ingest it in FCP and export all would be a lot of work. Is there a quicker way to do that?
I can look at the clips in the P2 reader but only look and not extract. Dimly I remember, there was something like that for Windows....?
That must have been before I used Edius...... but now I am on Mac ... but I could also been mistaken, since it has been a long time ago.

Use P2CMS. A free download from Panasonic, it'll let you move clip by clip, delete clips, re-organize your folders, etc.

BTW, has anyone ever picked up on any hint that Panasonic may someday support Vista and Win7 for P2CMS???

Thank you Barry, my fault.... I am using P2CMS to get a quick view of the clips.... should have searched for the manual.

Now I downloaded it.

Hi Barry, need to ask you for help again:
1. I create a new folder- lets say " P2_Clips_all
2. I select all the clips and ingest them.

After ingesting, the clips turn yellow.
So, whenever I open a P2 card folder and when it reads the folder and the clips which show in the window are yellow, this means, that a clip with the same number had been already ingested into the database e.g. "P2_Clips_all"?
If that is the case, when I open the folder "P2_Clips_all" it will contain all clips I was reading before? And it will be save, to delete all other folders (which have been backuped several times?
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Because I lost already some footage, I would not like to loose more because of a small oversight.
I could not find anything mentioned in your book about it, on your DVD you mention only the P2 Reader (for Win) and the 142 pages manual from Panasonic does not give me any clue.

If the software works the way (I hope to work) then this will be a fantastic way to find duplicates!

Thank you.

I'm not a big fan of using P2CMS, but it does two jobs that people need done:
1) it does data verification when copying to the computer, and
2) it runs on the Apple computers.

So when I say "use P2CMS", it's because for an Apple user, you don't really have a choice. Not that it's great software, but that it's the only software that I can think of that does the job.

Okay, with that said, I haven't used it in years and am quite rusty on it. Hopefully someone who knows it better will come in with better answers.

I don't use the "ingest" feature on P2CMS, and really never have; I used it to "export" clips from a card to a hard disk. The "ingest" feature creates a database on your hard disk, and splits every clip away from the card structure's combined nature, and sets each clip into its own directory. That's actually probably closer to what you'd want. But I prefer P2 Viewer's way of working, where I set one virtual card per project, and don't need or want each clip to be its own folder, so ... I use P2 Viewer instead.

So -- with P2CMS - when I used it, I would plug in the card, then select the appropriate clips and "export" them to a different directory. That's basically the same workflow as when using P2 Viewer and copying selected clips to a new virtual card.

I believe that your understanding of how P2CMS works, is probably accurate. My recommendation to you would be to test your proposed workflow with a card full of random test clips (i.e., footage you won't care about whether it gets deleted or not). But I think it does what you're describing.

Thank you Barry,
well, as I said, I only want to remove the duplicates. When I started with "ingest" I dd not know, that those which have been ingested already, will show up again in yellow.
I thought, I need the clip name one by one in order to find out if I have any duplicates by putting them all in 1 folder. I tried to export, but then I would not have known the clip number and could not have not seen if there are any duplicates. Well, I spent the whole afternoon..... but thinking of it...... I guess, I would be better off to create for every country a virtual drive and place then the clips inside. I am surprised, how I can manage to have one P2 folder with so many different location clips together.
An other question; I also have Firestore footage, is there any way to open that fast? Just look for the folder, where footage is in, or is there also something as easy the P2CMS?
