any way to batch rename Canon 7D movie clips in FCP or prior to importing in FCP???

I'm importing a bunch of Canon 7D movie clips into Final Cut Pro via the Log and Transfer window. All my clips have the annoying "MVI_####" label.

IS there any way in FCP's Log and Capture window? Or perhaps someone knows of a batch rename software that allows me to batch rename all Canon 7D clips prior to import into FCP?

Yes - choose custom name in the L&T window, you can call them anything you want. It also adds a counter (if you want) and you can set the start number to be what every you want.
 
I'm not sure if a Mac can do something similar but on a windows machine you can select all files (of the same type) in a folder... right click on the top one... select "rename"... and give it a new name. This will then rename all of the files with that new name along with a (1), (2), (3), etc. after it.

Works great when dumping mass footage or images from one specific shoot, ie. Fireworks 2010 (1), Fireworks 2010 (2),...

This will rename hundreds of files almost instantly.

I'm guessing something similar can be done with a Mac.
