T2i Any Thoughts On this Setup?

Hi Guys,

I'm new to filming with DSLRs and I want to get into it. I'm looking for a few lenses and a starter setup that will let me do some nice filming. I was looking at this gear. What do you guys think about these? Any suggestions why I should get it or why I should not? I'm on a low budget so I will probably go with a T2i but for the other parts, any suggestion is welcome:

Also, I'm not sure whether the Fader ND filter will be good enough. This is the first time I would be using one. And since the zoom lens has a filter size 82mm, does that mean the Fader ND will create vignetting when I put it on especially at 24mm? Any suggestions are welcome. Also, if you guys have any suggestions on ways I could save and still get the same quality, that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks

hmm, interesting lenses... so U dont need wide? 24mm equivalent 38mm in FF

by the way, do NOT buy 32 GB card, buy TWO pieces 16 GB cards!!

XCM beat me by a minute with the card info.....

I wouldn't just have one 32gb card. Get (2) 16gb instead. You don't want to loose ALL of your footage if something goes wrong.

I purchased the Hoodman Hoodloupe from ebay for $60.00 shipped and it works great. I made a bracket that holds it to the camera. Although the Z-finder is better, i personally wouldn't spend that money when the viewfinder is half the value of you camera.

I would invest the money you save on the Z-finder in some sort of Audio. Being a Zomm H2 or a H4.

These are just my opinions, I don't shoot for a living. I'm just some jerk with a couple of cameras. I own the T2i I can tell you without a doubt the audio is NOT up to par.

I would buy four 8 gig cards, but thats me, I don't like all my eggs in one basket so to speak.
We each have different priorities.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the help. That's actually a good point you guys have with the memory card. The reason why I did not include the Zoom H4N into the list was because I have another camera with a solid sound setup already at home and I can just use that one as my B camera and then record the sound with that and sync later in post. Thank you for the suggestions.

Oh right... You are correct on this one as well. I was pretty sure it was APS-C because the other prime lens was APS-C designed, but it seems the zoom lens is designed for Full Frame cameras so it would have a 1.6x magnification. What other lens would you guys suggest besides the Sigma one I picked?

for the price you can get 32GB cards now (under $100), I'd get at least 2-3 cards. The Kingston 32GB card (class 6) is like $100 or less here in Toronto, great deal for sure, I'm sure you can find them even cheaper on ebay or amazon. If you are shooting video, you'll need the space for sure and eliminates the need to dump footage off cards when you're shooting for a long time.

The fader ND is not intended for use with anything wide.

Get 16 2GB cards and impress your friends. :cheesy:
