Any solution to speed up the exporting process???

I'm wondering if there is a software or hardware device help quickens the exporting process for FCP as well as Compressor. Let me know please if you guys know anything?

Exporting to....WHAT? There are so many options that the question is too broad to answer. If H.264, then CompressHD from Matrox, or the MAX version of their cards speed that process. As mentioned, the Elgato Turbo.264. But DVD authoring? Output to tape? Broadcast MPEG-2? Nothing but faster processors and more RAM....

1. Buy a faster clock CPU (FCP Export is not a "How Many Cores" but more of How Many GHZ you have.
2. Get better GPU, 1/2 of the products in Studio use the graphics card to assist with blur, and other effects.
3. If you have GIG-E and Another Mac or two or ten, you can build a compressor cluster, which if done right (even without a SAN/Fibrechannel) can chew through the thing faster, esp if its many files that it can dispatch between different machines.

(those are the more advanced)

Below are some obvious ones.

The obvious for these, is your source media in FCP or Compressor and your target drive should never be the same disk/volume. This will do away with wating for a write to complete on a file, to do a read on the next chunk.

For renders, use a separate Volume for Render Cache, Capture Scratch, it will speed up FCP performance a bit.

If you're only encoding to a specific target like H.264 look at hardware assisted solutions like Elgato Turbo h.264 or the HD version of it (fairly fast).
If you're working with MPEG-2 there are some hardware cards that can help (but I sincerely don't recommend it)
If you're working on RED - look at Red Rocket.

But best idea is to

1. Get faster processor clock and double the RAM, Upgrade your GPU to the best-est you can (I ran a test where the same box did 2 minutes vs. 40 minutes render on Color of the same primary and secondary grades - only graphics card changed). 422 Uncompressed HD.

Develop separade drives, raid Arrays etc for:
- 0. Your Operating System and your Apps.
- 1. Your Souce Media (.MOV clip files)
- 2. Final Cut's/Compressors Cache/Scratch disks (compressor uses /var on the root volume typically) FCP is settable via menus.
- 3. Your destination meida.

Also look at SSD drives for either of those as those have inanely sick seek times and react times.

That definitely helped. Thanks.
