Any Smart Way to save tons of avi files ?

I need to record 10 hours of seminar using DVX100B each month and transfer these 10 tapes into avi files by WinDV for editing. My head office in New York demands selected footage of each event for their record.
The problem is 10 tapes of avi files occupy 140GB in my external hard drive and 1680GB after 12 months. I don't want to buy one 2TB external drive every year to hold these avi files. I prefer to keep these avi files for furture editing without spending hours in files transferring again.
What's your suggestions and normal practice ? Should I save them in other smaller size formats yet to keep the quality for editing ?

Tell your company that if they need that then they'll have to either supply you with more storage or take the files and then allow you to delete them and they will be the only ones with them.

A terabyte hard disk is only $119 in the Sunday ads, so it's not that bad to hang onto the files. You could always charge the client a "storage fee" if that's what you need to do.

Thanks all for your suggestions.
I thought there is software to compress avi files for storage and expand them when necessary, like WinRAR....

Won't save much space though. Video files are already compressed. Storing them in a Zip or RAR file will save you a tiny amount of space, maybe a couple percent. You could always try and see what results you get, but I'm predicting not much and not worth the time it'd take to do it.
