Any rumours about a Sony 24p camcorder?

I'm giving Sony just a little more time, then I'm buying the competitions camera. I'd like them to update the FX1 but that's not their style, maybe when they introduce their BluRay line? I'm looking for any rumblings about such a camera. I know as soon as I buy a new camcorder, Sony will announce theirs about a week later. Thanks.

Most will tell you it will never happen, I say it's just a matter of time. There was a thread where I speculated on this. My reasoning was that George Lucas stated that he was going to shoot the new Star Wars TV series with Sony Camcorders that "You can buy over the counter". Granted, maybe they aren't cameras that you could buy over the counter, but I imagine something thats at a more prosumer level, and I don't imagine he'll shoot a TV show in 60i. I think George is privy to something Sony's got cooking. Lucas has a good relationship with Sony, after all he got them to develop the first 24p technology.

He's shooting with A1's or FX1's in cineframe25, I think. The show should be awesome--I can't wait.

Is Lucus writing and directing?

The pain, the pain!

It would be fun if they shot on HDV, but I can't see it happening just because of the crap keys you get off 4:2:0. They would waste so much time trying to get good keys that it would be far cheaper to shoot on a CineAlta. They may do uncompressed capture from a prosumer model though...?

Yes, but why would he ever shoot with a 1/3" prosumer camera (provided that's what it's about)? I really can't think of a reason since he owns a few cinealta's if i'm not mistaken.

Yeah, I think 'Ol Georgie boy owns some of the F900's but I think he also owns some F950's as well. Wouldn't it be nice though if Sony released a Mini Cinealta, a Minialta if you will. Oh well, wishful thinking.

If Lucas is indeed shooting a Star Wars network series on an FX1, then he's lost his mind. Though, some would say he lost his mind decades ago...

FWIW, the idea of capturing CineFrame25 from the FX1 and de-interlacing to 4:4:4 SD is intriguing, especially since it could then be sped up 4% to get 24P. Interesting things could be done with that camera, but it's hard to let go of the one I already love...

I highly doubt he'd use FX1's, maybe Z1's but even that's it stretching a bit. He and Sony are cooking something, mind you it would probably have to either out do or be on par with Panny's HVX's. We can only hope it'll be a prosumer Cinealta.

I never mentioned an FX1...I was thinking something more along the lines of a camera with HD-XDCAM format. That would be the most logical conclusion.

The new DSR-450 dvcam can actually do 24p. It is a 2/3 chip camera with interchangeable lenses, but still SD.

By the way, how small are the F950's? Has anyone used one? Because I read somewhere that they were supposed to be portable. I could be wrong.

I'm sure that when George says, "Off the shelf.", he is talking about the F950s. You have to remember that when you are on the "Forbes 400", you get stuff from the top shelf!.

The man may be a little out of touch, but not that out of touch.

Yes and didn't he use that kind of camera's for episode 1-3? If he is referring tot these cameras now, why wouldn't he say something like, we'll use the same camera's as with return of the sith, or whatever. Yet he specifically refers to something else. Peculiar...
