Any Rules on the Avatars?

Just wondering.

There is a new one with a guy holding pistol to his head.

There are others that I have to wonder about.

I'm not for censorship, but as ostensibly one of the best professional editing sites, does any body have any thoughts on some guidelines?

To be honest, I wish we had real names and no avatars.

Haven't seen the one with the pistol, perhaps it was from someone's project, or their favorite scene?

This is one of the best film production sites, and the moderators have a lot to do with that. Im sure anything offensive would be dealt with accordingly.

As for real names, sites that made that a requirement lost a lot of visitors. Dvinfo I think is one of them, caused a bit of an uproar IIRC. This is the internet, you don't need real names, my main reasoning is A) Lots of employers these days will search for anything you do online and judge you on it, even when it has nothing to do with the job you are applying for. and of course, B) What do you do with all the John Smiths, John Thomas, Mike Browns? Start to add numbers at the end?

Avatar rules are pretty much nothing animated, and nothing that's offensive. Haven't seen the ones you're referencing but, yes, people should be on good behavior when choosing an image that everyone else will have to look at.

I think personally its a case of internet evolution, a new communication media was born, it gave ananimity, thus many people felt that hiding behind a keyboard freed them to abandon any code of conduct usually reserved in the real world.

However I think as the internet has matured, so has attitudes, as more and more information and communication (even personal persona) moves between the real world and the cyber world, the cyber world is starting to mimic the same codes of coduct as in the real world.

The group dynamics of human behaviour will remain the same regardless of real life vs cyber life, its just the cyber life is probably now past its "teenage" years.

Anhar,

I was going to use my real name but The Penguin one took off and I would be shot if I changed it now. The avatars can be fun and I don't think anything that doesn't go against the P's should be censored out.
