C100: Any options for Atamos Ninja 2

I find this product to be extremely sub-par and very unreliable. There lack of quality is on exceeded by their lack of dealer support. These litte boxes will not hold up in an industrial or professional environment. Any recommendations?

C100 is not engineered for an industrial or professional environment, Ninja2 (with HDMI input) also not, so everything seems to be OK.

I can recommend C300 with HD-SDI output + recorder AJA or similar. This level is much better for your purpose.

Yeah, thanks but I have three RED Epics for my professional work. This was supposed to be for fun but it is an absolute failure.

Nothing is going to be more reliable that delivers 3:2 pulldown. The Ninja is very solid for what it is IMO, and the Blade's monitor is actually pretty much unmatched by other 5' in the price range.

The Samurai is OK but the Ninja is awful. I have had three firmware failures in a week. Not good Atamos!

I should know if you buy cheap you get cheap, unreliable gear.

My friend works with Ninja2 and has no problem, so that trouble with firmware can be about one bad piece. I have the Alphatron EVF, there is HDMI to SDI cross output then you can use the samurai recorder. But for me it is too much cables .-) .

Hi Paul,
Do you have the latest firmware loaded for the Ninja 2? If so then the next thing could be the problem with using heavy/stiff HDMI cables with the C100/Ninja. Other than that I always record both in camera and from the Ninja2 in case of any problems. I agree that the Ninja2 does not exactly inspire confidence but I'm not sure any HDMI device would for me anymore.
I do find the C100 AVCHD files are quite good for the type of files and several NLE's will allow native editing now. I shot and edited a piece recently for a client for a new web site and it had interiors, exieriors and some underground material all of which needed some tweeking in post and the AVCHD held up really well.
I have also shot some material for a commercial that was cut with Red Epic footage and the ProRes files from the Ninja2 held up well in post. The C100 really has a great look for a camera with some obvious limitations.

Are you looking for a different recorder other than an Atomos Ninja 2? If so the Convergent Design Odyssey7 or the 7Q is probably the next up. The Ninja Blade has an excellent screen but I don't know how different the recorder is.
