Any on-camera monitors with built in waveform priced under $1k?

well to my eyes I rather have smaller pixels than to back off, kind of impossible to back up from the monitor if you're using it as your "VF monitor". In other words I use it like a RED lcd on an arm. I dont use a EVF I use small high resolution screens about a few in' from my face with an Israel arm. So no real way to backup in that kind of situation. Plus 1k for a monitor with a low pixel count in the world of 1080p and pulling focus, is just kind of a rip-off feeling to me.

I was never happy with marshal monitors either to be honest. The only one I ever actually liked was one of their cheapest ones, the HDMI 5'' did a great job for the money. Battery option was annoying but worked around it pretty easily. It was a 5'' but 800x480 res so it felt very useful for pulling focus, very few shots if any ever got buzzed. Wish there was like a "waveform box". Something like a blackmagic box you could plug in that could be in between the camera out and the monitor in. So that way you could turn on or off the wave without needing to buy a new monitor or praying that Sony add it later.

I wonder if that exists anywhere? If not, it should, and I should get some $$ for coming up with the original idea haha

Let me rephrase the question:
How much more information do you get from a smaller screen vs bigger screen if they are the same resolution, bit depth, etc.
If anything the bigger screen makes the information more legible.
That's what I meant.
Also don't forget that bigger pixels give you a better angle of view because they don't shade off axis as quickly...

Well a roundabout way to answer that question is to mention that I am replacing my lh-900 9" 720p monitor with the tv logic 5" 720p monitor. Why? WEIGHT. I have NO problem with either angle of view or pulling focus on the tvlogic, and it weighs next to nothing.

By the way, have someone had any experience with the Sony PVM-740 7.4" OLED monitor?

I know... its larger, heavier, over $2.5K but has interesting specs... even though its 960x540 only, has deep blacks, 10-bit driver, 3G-SDI...

Looks like the best match for the F3 with S-Log on a portable monitor...

Is this OLED technology really the best option for true blacks and color rendition?

I'm loving my TVlogic 5.6" and keep it mounted on my F3 pretty much all the time. Weight and size are 2 big reasons, but so are the features esp waveform and a good color peaking circuit. I do find mine a little bit yellow or warm - nothing like a small HD I worked with a few months ago though. Nevertheless its warmer than my 17" Panasonic and I've been playing with the color settings to cool it off a bit and move the warmth more toward red than yellow. Anyone else have similar issues?

The Sony OLED is in a completely different class and different price range. While I have not worked with one, I have had several extensive demos both of the monitor and the OLED technology. And yes, it delivers the truest blacks and best color. But this thread was sub $1K which then grew to TVLogic @ $1600 and now we're talking OLED pushing $3K
