C300: Any new EOS Cinema cameras in 2013?

Man I hope not, I just ordered a C100 yesterday lol!

There were rumors that there was going to be a C50, but you really can't water down the features anymore...or Canon will have its last laugh and release a camera with a 5 minute record time or something ridiculous.

By the way, the rumors of the C50 were just that - rumors. I doubt they have any foundation in anything an engineer said.

I'd love one that sits between the C100 and C300 with better EVF and 720p 50p.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

I can't imagine what they would charge for probably a few lines of code and minor hardware change. My guess is more than a GH3 which would give you 1080p 60p and a B camera.

Whenever they build a camera body that can record and be operated without the handle will be the day I get that camera.. Till then I am excited to film with my C100.

All the Cinema EOS cameras can record without a side handle attached. 300 and 500 have full operational and menu selection ability with no side handle. I believe the C100 has some limitations with menu control without a side handle, though.

I am not expecting any camera till next year. Canon has just announced that the firmware for C300/C100 would be available in October 2013. If they were to announce a new camera, then they would not have worked on the firmware. Canon just announced a lower resolution for C300 keeping the broadcast in mind. This camera was not originally planned for broadcast. Like the 5D II, Canon is taking the feedback and incorporating in the firmware upgrades. Not sure why it didn't plan for giving us slow motion at 1080p though.

If we look at Canon's firmware upgrades in the still cameras, they support the cameras for atleast close to a year after the last major firmware upgrade.

Frankly speaking these people are now warming upto these Cinema cameras. It has taken time for people to understand and start buying. It would be foolish for them to immediately launch a better version. Among the cinema cameras, C300 is the oldest being announced on Nov 2011 and was available by Feb 2012. So we just have spent a year and a quarter. It is not even two years. I suspect if there is any replacement for C300 then it would be available in the fall 2014.

C100 is doing fine. C500 is picking up again. Recorders for C500 are just being announced. 1D C is finding many takers. I know of people filming mainstream cinema with it. The line up of Canon cameras seems to be fine for the time being.

PS: The above is my thoughts and not based on any info from Canon officials.

nah, consider the product refesh frequencies, a new product announcement this year will only kill the sales for current C100/300/500.

a new C50 will for sure affect some 5D3 and C100 sales, this is something Canon does not want to see. Unless its a C800 thats target at a $55k range , or a C10 thats at 1k range.

No new Cinema cameras from Canon in 2013.......

Thanks Jim. Figured as much but there was a rumor (briefly) on Canon Rumors of a new EOS cinema camera and I wondered if Canon was taking the BMPC and Sony F5 specs into consideration in a newer, more spec-competitive version.
