I guess this is pretty off-topic, but I have to say I love the 8-track format, and the swanky designs of the 70's 8-track players. Unfortunately, I can only seem to find Streisand and Manilow tapes... and though he is a Barry...
For $50 the book would have to cover quite a bit to be worth that much.
The manual has very minimal information other than listing functions.
I think most of the things people want to know are:
What are recommended settings for different types of shooting?
What do the different settings mean and when would you change them?
Anamorphic, squeeze, letter box - when, why, how?
External microphone setups
Workflow for DVD, film,standard video
Basic capture settings for the various editors.
The fact is Panasonic already covers at least the settings issues in some of their documents but these are not the easiest to find and I suspect most new readers here probably don't knwo these exist.
DVX100 Set-up menus (DVX100Guide.pdf ) actually has a lot of information on specifics unique to the DVX (42 pages worth)
The full Power of the DVX100 (powerl.pdf) is incredibly informative since it's a full color 20 page document that shows the different settings.
It's aimed at Pal users but settings still apply. (Found this in the England Panasonic website as I recall)
Make these 2 documents known to new users and easily downloaded and you've solved part fo the problem. (Better yet combine them along with some basic guidance since the documents list the technical info but don't suggest a when to use hint)
Barry Green has written a document on the anamorphic which ideally is something that Panasonic would be covering or selling.
Link to Adam Wilt site is also a treasure of information for DVX users.
Some of the other questions being asked fall into non-DVX specific issues and tend to be covered by other books.
There was project started on this forum to create a document covering many areas of production with this camera. I haven't kept up on the current status. Anything Panasonic could do to help support this would be very good for Panasonic.
for $50, i would hope that would come w/ a dvd showing sample footage, say for instance a comparison b/w 4:3, letterbox, squeeze, and the panny anamorphic. maybe show some comparisons of different menu settings, etc. just a thought...
