Any GH2 news on the HDMI output front?

I dont think he meant your post didn't make any sense, but the fact that they crippled it doesn't make sense:). I think.lol

but Ian, you said in the other post that it's inlogical that a budget camera like this WILL have a full HDMI out

The big reason I was going to the gh2 was for the full hdmi out. The banding issues and not full hdmi, I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Seriously, hdmi out at 1080p would have (if it proves not to be) a MASSIVE bonus. At this price point, the GH2 is frankly amazing just the way it is.

I got a PAL GH2 and hooked it up to my AJA IO HD. I am setting up the camera in "24p CINEMA" mode and set the quality to "24H" (24Mbit). The io recognizes a 1080i25 HDMI input. I have to set the capture settings accordingly, otherwise there is no usable or no signal. I couldn't record anything other than interlaced footage via HDMI. Until now, there is no sign to me that the HDMI output has better quality than AVCHD from SD-Card. To me it looks all 4:2:2, but maybe I was expecting SD-DV like blocks in the red channel ...

you can try to record FIRST in camera (to avchd), and afterward (while still recording) do all the output experiments and see what comes out and what the AJA reads or records..

well yes, that would be non interlaced but I don't want to capture the signal after it went though the AVCHD encoder ...

from 24p playback captured via HDMI:

How do you know if you record a signal that
Went through the encoder?
Can you upload the identical avchd + AJA footage
You captured ?

Nope. I never said that. Must be another Ian.

Can anyone of you name me a camera that outputs a non interlaced signal via HDMI? Anyone?

I think rather the question is, "Does the output change *while* recording?" In essence, doing a test by hitting record on the camera, then, while recording on the camera, see what the AJA is getting through HDMI.

I don't think the hdmi output ever passes thru the avchd encoder. Setting the camera to record just changes the sensor output values
