Any Follow Focus device used on FS100 warning - in general

AFAIK stills lens mounts are designed to break

This might seem crazy but its called 'fail soft design'

The concept being that the lens mount is a simple repair using a cheap part.. easily changable with three screws

If a lens were mounted to hard to the chassis the camera could be written off by an impact (twisted chassis = loss of lens to film plane accuracy)

Is that design approach suited to the rigours of film making.. not really IMO

Is it suited to use when taking still with an AF lens .. absolutely .. and that is what the E-mount is designed for

S

BINGO ! :) .....and even LENS construction made with the SAME logic - it's MUST be broken NEAR THE MOUNT in case to SAVE expensive OPTIC !

Canon fix this $1500 lens for only $180.... :)

Good point Morgan. Fail Safe is a good way to describe it. My foot once slipped off a clutch in high rev and the transmission teeth
bought the farm. It should have been the throwout bearing or clutch that failed- "safe". C'mon Saab - wake up. Oh wait they're dead.

I suspect a still camera has a much stronger chassis/frame that would bear a stress load capable of breaking a mount without buckling itself. A plastic Fs100 chassis would crack and splay under that kind of load. Is my guess anyway. I opened an EX1 up like a candy bar last year. Something tells me Sony is still Sony. To be fair the XDCAM and F950 are plenty strong. I was shooting with one a couple weeks ago and the weight was unreal! And thats WITH Dionics. Getting spoiled and complaining about it non stop...

MTF Adaptor Support

MTF Adaptor Support

MTF E mount support 001.jpg

I just received this support from MTF for my NEX-NIK adaptor - provides support and anti twisting for long/heavy lenses.

Looks nice Paul, thanks for showing it. What price point? Does it only pair with MTF gear? I wonder how if it gets in the way of FF attaching with smaller lenses- of course then you really dont need it I guess ; )

Sorry to dredge up this old thread but i guess some folks on here could help me.

Firstly i've just got 24-70ZA which is fairly solid, there's talk of issues with the FS mount being quite weak, i assume that this kind of weight on it would be okay? I assume a lot of the stress issues are to do with rotational shear from a follow focus?

Even so, the LA-E2 adapter has a tripod mount on it, yet i'm struggling to find a rod clamp that would:

a) work, with vertical adjustment!
b) offer a quick release method so that i can take the LA-E2 off to swap to something else

So anyone using this kind of lens (2470z) without additional support?

cheers
Paul

one of our problems was not the weak mount (4 small screws) but after 2 intense week there was some loose screw at the junction of the body and the mount
Quick Fix at our "sony authorised repair ..." it was 2 screw that went loose .
Not that bad but not that funny

We have novoflex adaptor Nikon and Alpha
they are Ok.

We also have the 16x9 PL Heummmmm
Not to be Rude but the mount is firm but the support bracket !!!!!
can someone explain to me what were they thinking !!
The support bracket is flimsy, all the locking mechanism does not lock the thing in place
We replace that part with a lens suport from Zacuto

The value of something that is easy to adjust without hassle is easy to underestimate.

You are going to be changing all the gizmos on your rod support system constantly.

I would hope the high dollar stuff is less frustrating to work with than the low dollar stuff.

If you can lock something in place without pulling out a hand tool, that is nice, too.

Olivier,

Ah those Zacuto lens supports seem exactly what i was looking for, but $240 for a rod support is an insane amount for that! I assume they're hand made by virgins or something but even so.

Is anyone aware of any more reasonable alternatives?

thanks
Paul

I have the MTF support. It has vertical (and even a small amount of lateral) adjustment. But no "quick release".
