FS7: any feature films?

Cool to see there's another one.

FS7 being a great camera I still don't see the point of picking it for an entire feature film as there are cameras more suited to shoot that kind of stuff.

There are members here who have shot low budget features with the FS7. Like Osslund though, not sure I would.

I shot 'girl and gun' its not a feature but is suposed to be drame drama.

It ranges from OK to terrible (particularly outside shots which I did not shoot!) - but some of the opening shots CU of policeman show to me that the camera is pretty sharp - your film will be let down by acting production design and lighting well before the camera is a problem.

I think choosing the camera (or not) is a fine balance - all the other drama Ive shot has been on Black Magic. 4k and Ursa Mini.

Now 880mbs proRes vs 400Mbs xavc can make a big cost difference to the DIT budget and really most producers who are in the low budget realm dont focus on such fine details as backing up their data. Also same producers may aim for 'cache' over story.. I know a bunch of cr+ap shot on very fancy camera packages!

If you are in PL lens world clearly the F5/55 are stronger and more appropriate.

I dont think there is a reason not to shoot a feature on an Fs7 - in fact I would suggest Fs7+more lights or more Art department would be way better than an Alexa with a compromised art/light/talent budget.

Most important I would suggest is paying crew.. and alexa rental can compromise that which I find personally uncomfortable.

Obviously alexa+ enough art/light/talent is probably better.

If shot by the same crew with the same lighting, same lenses, makeup set design etc. you will find it very hard to tell an FS7, C300, RED, Alexa or a Varicam 35 apart the reason an Alexa is chosen over an FS7 or a c300 has a lot more to do with workflow easy access to menus, ergonomics, controls on the dumb side of the camera etc. From a production standpoint no one will get in trouble for hiring an Alexa with something going wrong rather than a c300/FS7 etc. The camera rental is such a small line item in the overall budget that none will want to save a couple of hundreds a day for the difference and take responsibility for potential failure.

Is sadly true: "No one got fired for choosing IBM".

Wish that was true. But it isn't. It's more of a pipe dream. Been there done that, with side by side tests using same lighting, same lens and same set design. Not hard at all to tell which cameras look like video and which don't.
