Does anyone have any personal experience with anti-shake plugins specifically for Premiere Pro. I dont want to spend a fortune but need a professional look that works.

I think the biggest problem with correcting shake in post from D90 footage is the jello! Although the shake can be moderately corrected, you will still have the Jello effect :(

I'm so hanging for the new D400!!

even if the D400 did come out, jello would still be present i am sure. Because it is first and foremost a still camera.

I wonder if anyone has used these products and could say for sure if it degrades the image at all? I will be using it on maybe 50% of my footage so if it degrades Its a problem.

I dont think Jello will be such an issue IF the D400 surfaces, just my opinion.

use a tripod. Saves you time and money.

Spend $15 bucks on one of those DIY steadicam.

Basically "Mercalli" makes an excellent job. I stabilized a lot of old dv-material with it. Often you have to check out several presets before the result gonna be satisfying, though.
But it isn´t able to perform any magic tricks ;-). So the handheld D90 stuff with it jello vision + bad compression won´t give you really good results. Naturally using a tripod is the best way to go...

I make documentary realistically you can't do that 100% on a tripod. Again does it degrade the image does anyone know?

I find on these forums people want to share there opinions and make assumptions rather than help to answer the request or question.

The way most if not all of the anti shake things work is to enlarge the image by 10 or 15 percent and then move the original size frame around in the expanded frame to compensate for motion...much like electronic image stabilization in low end dv cameras.
Those cameras don't use the motion detect prisms to smooth out shake at full rez...they use 85 percent of the sensor real estate and shift the image around as needed.

Most of the degradation of the image comes from not using 100 percent of the sensor.

If this complaint is directed to me: What´s so difficult to understand about that?

If you work with a camera that delivers real good IQ you won´t see a significant degradation. But, for sure, every anti-shake plugin zooms in the image depending on the degree of shaking. So, every measure of anti-shaking worsens the IQ. And back to your initial question: "Mercalli" is the best plugin I know for PP with the lowest degradation...
