Another off camera recording option

Wooaah! A bit steep for a device that does the same as the Ninja/Samurai.

How do they justify that?

We haven't released the price of the Samurai yet, or the complete specification. But I guarantee you'll think it's surprisingly affordable, and not surprisingly expensive.

But a second SSD is close to $900, and I would need that if I went down this route. Brings the price to the same level as the Nano.
I wonder what the cost of different codecs would be though?
Prores is fine for my own projects, but if I hand footage off, some other codec might be better

Thanks David. Any news on your locking HDMI cable solutions ?

No news yet, but we are actively considering several options. Keep an eye on the website.
BTW - we are very close to releasing the price and spec of the Samurai!

When are you planning on having Samurai available?

Well, we're showing it for the first time at NAB. We can't say for certain when it's shipping yet, but we're hoping you won't have to wait too long after NAB.

While we're waiting for the Samurai, has anyone received their Ninja yet? I registered at the Atomos site but haven't received any info at all.

Thanks for your interest in the Ninja. We're very close to shipping. There have been several frustrating delays (for everyone) because we wanted it to be completely right before shipping. We've made very good progress and you'll see announcements very soon. It's better to get these things right, even if it means delays.

Hi Dave.. I have cancelled my order and had a refund for my Ninja now as it was just too long to pay interest.. I didnt think it right to say "Please refund my money AND keep me on the waiting list"... :)

The thing is.. I have also purchased 7400 RPM drives for my Ninja.... now PLEASE DO tell me I can use these on the Samari?

Ill hold on to them as Im sure it will be a yes, unless you are going SSD only or something, they can always go in my laptop :)

Ill be upgrading most cameras to HD-SDI anyway so keep up the good work!

@gbarnes

I can understand the frustration with the delays, and appreciate your early faith in the product. Yes, you can absolutely use those drives in the Samurai: we're committed to our policy of allowing users to get the best prices and choice on their drives by sourcing them locally. The most frustrating thing of all? I've got a Ninja on my desk, and I can see how good it is. But, although it's tantalisingly close to final release, it's not done until it's done.
