The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

Another query,

I read somewhere you can, in some Nikon software that is unknown to me, draw your own curves for the sensor and upload them to the camera via the same software.

Anyone with any knowledge of this, or has done this, ??

It would be interesting to really control the image at the sensor level as far as response curves.

I have done this. You can use one of several applications. Nikon Capture NX2 should probably get the job done for the D90 and it might even affect video mode. There's also budget software called Toneup for $20 that will probably add D90 support soonish. This what I use for my D70s. You can edit the curve, download curves, apply the curve to an image to see the effects or dial one in yourself. Works nicely.

"The Kholi Hack"

I think the Kholi Hack should be called "the kholi hack"

or maybe in a shooting situation the camera operator calls out... Kholi... frame... rolling...

or maybe leave hack off.. and you could just say... " hey Johnson! did you Kholi the exposure??

this is using "the kholi maneuver". 50mm f/1.4 manual. wide open. nikon set to Vivid, 3200 wb preset. shooting under streetlights. but i see the same thing under fluorescent a well a a flickering in darker areas under regular household tungsten lights. dont know if thats related.

those "waves " in the image shouldn't be there. and they slowly scroll down the screen. first noticed this last night but attributed it to cheap fluorescent lights i was shooting under at the farmer's market. my HV20 does this too.

video coming.

you can also see it in the video shot at nikon expo as the women comes up from the escalator
and the nikon demo movie with the chinese guys in the fish market or wherever

I'm curious why no one is looking at the other cams that do 720P. The panny LX3 does 720P/24P, has a CCD sensor 1/1.93" and uses 25 mbps, so the images should have no skew/rolling shutter issues + its twice the recording capacity of the D90 (records at 12 mbps)..
It has a component out that can be captured via an Intensity capture station..

a 35mm sized sensor for more cinematic, 35mm-like characteristics. interchangeable lenses. and i like the frustration of being so very, very close to my ideal camera.

Zak-

Thats from shooting at a non-synced shutter, I see the same thing with Red.

Once you are able to manually control the shutter you can put it at 1/60th and it will disappear. (I think)

CCD vs CMOS

CCD vs CMOS

True, but you have huge rolling shutter issues and manual control problems..The LX3 has full manual control, higher recording bit rate for better quality..
You get more DOF with it, but really, 1/2" CCD DOF is not bad anyway..
Also the Exilim Pro EX-F1 does 1080P/60P...
Just through out every 2nd frame and use 1/60th shutter you get 30P..
30P can be converted to 24P in Magic Bullet..
I'm just saying that there are options out there..

Hmmmm lets see,

12 million pixel + large cmos sensor. Super pixel density.

Highlight handling, that camera can't even conceive of.

Um , Super35 motion picture frame.

Dynamic range that camera will never know or ever will have.

Lenses in the hundreds to use that are far far superior than any camcorder lens is.

Lowlight light capabilities that camera can't touch

color that camera cant touch

Selective focus without the need of expensive image degrading 35mm adapters

Thats some....

Priced Less

Priced Less

The Panny is 500/- with lens. 10x lens so its not too bad for a fixed lens (f2.0 - 2.8 as well so its a fast lens)
The Casio came out at 1K but I reckon its 6-700 bucks now..
There were earlier Panny Lumix models that did 720P/30P for cheaper...

All record to SD cards..

Just saying that there are options..

and is it prices at or around 1k?
interchangeable lens?
records to SD cards?
