Another music vid shot with 2 FX1's

Re: Another music vid shot with 2 FX1's

Hi Nate,

Not to nitpick, but the FX1 doesn't have a 30i setting, does it? It's all 60i with CF24/CF30. Can you double-check your frame rate?

Thanks!

Perts if the face are in shadow, the rest are burned. On the FX1 this seems to be a serious problem, in the same conditions that were OK for my VX2000. I'm not really sure what I can do about it.
That's the result of the FX1 having less latitude. The only way around it is to control your lighting. Also, don't use CinemaTone gamma in those circumstances, as it seems to accentuate the crushing of the dark sections of the image, which gives you even less latitude.

Re: Another music vid shot with 2 FX1's

less latitude is OK in studio, or a clowdy day. But sometimes you just don't have control over the light, and have to do the best with it. I wasn't using Cinematone. I'm not familiar with it and don't trust it yet. Maybe a polarizing filter would help too. In any case I am considering underexposing a bit when the contrast is too high, and then fix in FCP.

Is his an obligated part of music story telling? I think it has to do with the exasperation of the band having to deal with problems caused by interlaced cameras.
It was the interlace nature of the FX1 that allowed me to do things not done before at this budget level.

And yes, all music video directors kill the band members in their videos. We wouldn't be doing our job otherwise.

Matteboxes hold filters and shade the lens from direct light that would cause flares. Has nothing to do with contrast control, unless you use the mattebox to hold low-con filters or the like.

The video is now going to be colored by a professional colorist, so it's yet to get a bit better. Hopefully next week...
