Another d90 video

it's important to remember that when people say the gh1 is a disappointment and that the images aren't as filmic as the d90 they're not necessarily saying, at least i'm not, that the d90 is a better camera. i feel the discussions on the subject always go nasty because gh1 people get defensive for whatever reason. to me it's quote obvious that both the d90 and 5d sensors are better than the gh1, if you have a problem seeing past jello and codecs just snap a couple of stills and it's very obvious, but that the gh1 is better in pretty much all other respects. we're all waiting for the great video slr and to me it simply isn't here yet.

call me old fashioned but to me 35mm on a big screen is still the best way and it's where i always try to show my work.

and the current and future reality is the internet as a place of exhibition.

I am going to wait on Nikon, as well, and use the D90 in the meantime. The D90 look is exactly the look I love. I just need the manual controls and wouldn't complain if there was better compression. (I also wouldn't complain if it were full frame.)

LOL that's not what I meant. Just that there seems to be a higher concentration of indie filmmakers or wanna-be's like me here in the US. So we're more than likely to actually shoot something controlled.

brother...i know man...was jerking your chain! :)

I keep on looking at your "Thrift Store" video on my monitor versus EX1 footage shot with a 35mm adapter...I got to say that the GH1 is much better looking.

I just hope I don't regret dumping the Canon 5d in favor of the Panasonic....what the heck..if I don't like it then Canon it is....

That's the cool thing, and you're good for realizing what a lot of others just don't: camera choice is never permanent. LoL

You can always ditch it and get something else.

Til then, just shoot great content. I wish I could do that. >=T

agreed...you just have to jump sometime or another and know what your final output will be. When I got the d90 I knew that ALL I would be using the d90 for was to shoot B-Roll that would end up being downconverted to SD...and it looks beautiful. Of course there are some instances where the camera fails me miserably...but I have learned to deal with those curves and shoot differently.

As I've heard over and over on these forums, all these different cameras have their positives and their negatives...but the truth of the matter is that none of these cameras is close to the RED ONE and I believe we use the RED ONE as our measuring stick. Will these DSLR's ever be to the stature of a RED ONE...not at a $2600 price point.

With the years to come maybe technology will get "smarter" and cheaper and we will have amazing cameras that have amazing controls and imagery...until then, do not let the tool hinder your creativity...and if it does, then can you truly call yourself a filmmaker? i don't say this to be combative or disrespectful...but unless you are a Hollywood filmmaker, then you are flying coach as all the rest of us. It is our jobs to find ways to make things happen and never let technology hinder us.

Honestly, i can blow away most videos posted on here with my trusty cheapo Super 8. Are my movies technically superior? nah...but they got heart and a good pair of "huevos"

(...that's balls to all of you spanish impaired amigos!)

:)

thanks, for a while i thought you were talking about making an omelette. two eggs and a sliced lamb heart, yummy... :-)

I'll most likely pick up a GH1 next week to play with. I have all these new lenses and anamorphic adapters that I want to try out. I don't know if I'll shoot the film with it, I'm hoping something with an aesthetic quality more on par with the 5D and D90 comes along in time. But I will work with some filters and lighting and see what the GH1 can do.

more indies may be shot in the US but I think more indies get released/seen overseas. Other countries don't have big studio finance and rely on government funding to keep their industries afloat.

Magic however has nothing to do with proliferation or money and everything to do with talent which has nothing to do with geography. btw an aussie just won the camera d'Or not an american.
