FS7: Another Baseplate/Shoulder pad/Rig thread for FS7 thread

Good thread - I was about to pull the trigger on the SHAPE BP0008 V-Lock Quick Release Baseplate as it's the only one I can find that is actually available - but more importantly, I like the design and the price is reasonable.

I have the Berkey top plate and Versahandle ordered as I really like the design and it was one of the few that is already available for purchase.

Wooden camera stuff has gone live on their site. No shoulder solution so not for me this time for the baseplate.

I have a shape baseplate on my FS7 but I think its the older one the BP6000 baseplate. Works great but rods won't be standard height for non adjustable matte boxes. Not an issue for me but maybe for some users.

Word of warning to anyone wanting to buy the Zacuto Universal VCT. The FS7 arm won't move because the plate is too wide .So you'll have to buy another rosette attachment to put the arm on! (Which I don't want to do so I'm sending it back).

So back to square one again...

Berkey is also coming out with a baseplate/shoulder pad solution hopefully really soon. I've been relaying feedback to them that I've seen online.

A major thing I've noticed (and part of this is due to the design of the FS7) is that pretty much every plate I've seen is a VCT plate. Vocals, Movcam, Chrosziel, Sony, Zacuto... But some people don't want the size/weight of a VCT plate if they are just using a tripod w/ rails out the front, or they want to be able to add/remove the shoulder pad. There is a chance that Berkey System's baseplate might be able to accommodate various setups (w/ and w/o shoulder pad, etc).

I'm interested in hearing what you guys are looking for in a baseplate.

It seems unless its a really narrow baseplate you need one with rosettes on it to mound the grip a little out and lower for clearance.

At this point- early Dec. 2014, there are only 2 Fs7 shoulder plates that are actually available for purchase- the Shape plate and the Sony plate. At least that is the case here in the U.S.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but it appears that the Sony VCT Fs7 shoulder plate places the camera further back on your shoulder than the built in pad does. This means you will be even more jammed up on the Fs7 when using the VCT Fs7. The Fs7's film plane ( sensor plane ) can only be positioned slightly ahead of the channel for the two mounting screws. The front of the camera will be sitting just behind those rosettes or right about at the front of the operator's shoulder. Place your Fs7 on your shoulder with the sensor plane where your shoulder starts- the ND wheel ends up being right next to your ear. This is a ridiculously jammed-up position for the camera.

Seems to me that the Vocas plate has it better. It places the camera body more forward, the sensor plane ends up sitting just ahead of the rosettes-

Note how the Vocas shoulder plate has the mounting screws at the front of the plate instead of far back in the middle of the plate like the Sony VCT plate for the Fs7-

Does anyone have a link to a photo of the Fs7 mounted on the Sony VCT-Fs7 plate? Terry, maybe you could mount a Fs7 on the Sony VCT-Fs7 plate you just received and post a picture for us.

Is it just me or does that Sony "FS7" plate look suspiciously like the Sony F5 plate? and if so....how the heck do you attach the FS7 to it?

Terry - no slam on you, you're input is greatly appreciated and you're just subject to what Sony provides to you...but this looks ridiculous.

Here's the image from B&H of the Sony F5 offering...look familiar?

Also, if that photo is accurate, there is no physical way those rails are 85mm standard distance from center of lens to center of rails.

After being quoted a substantially higher price from Cinegear Pro than the one mentioned on previous pages for the Tilta baseplate, I'm back interested in the Chrosziel again, as not only is it very slim looking, but the should pad is adjustable too which may help a bit with balancing.

Yep, that's what I have just ordered to replace my Zacuto Universal VCT.
