Anamorphic Shootout

Hi HHL and friends, I am mulling over a piece of anamorphic glass. It is the Iscomorphot 8mm/2x. I am wondering if anyone has experience in this glass. I know that there has been much talk about the Iscomorphot 16mm/2x and the Iscomorphot 8mm/1.5x but certainly not this. I am wondering if focusing distance is fixed for this.

Any experience to share? Many thanks!

Just picked up a set of normal lomo cinema primes (18,35,75) and a 50/75 Lomo anamorphic attachment. Going to take some test shots with the 75mm and the anamorphic mated this weekend during a location scout. I was going to do it all with step rings, but the lomo 75mm having an odd sized thread (83mm, or 84mm) has made that tough. So right now tape will likely have to do!

Well successful mating of the Lomo square front anamorphic and a Canon 55mm 1.2, and Helios 40-1 thanks to some duco cement and 3 or 4 step down rings.

I'm bummed that I can't get my Lomo 75mm to work with the step rings, but this will give me an excuse to not sell my 55mm, and Helios. Test footage upcoming after I make my scout on Saturday.

Anyone have any advice for filtration with this lomo square front. I don't have a 6x6 mattebox, so my options are taping a 4x4 filter to the front of it, or using a circular filter at some stage of my step rings.

50 looks way too bulbous imo. And it's a bit off but you prolly noticed that :) (oh, yeah, i just spent like litterly 2h aligning my proskar, lol). 98% of anom. honestly so not worth the trouble... *runs off thread, ducks some rocks*

Yeah it was def a bit off, the focus ring on the anamorphic attachment is a bit sticky so it was hard to adjust it properly handheld without any rails. Looking forward to shooting with this more this weekend. I'm going to do a comparison of anamorphic shots vs shooting the same shot spherical and just cropping it to 2:35 which should be interesting.

I ended up grabbing a 75mm anamorphic lomo from ebay, if that works out I'll put my Lomo anamorphic squarefront attachment that I used on the above video on the market if you would want it.It's got a step down filter attached to it to screw onto a lens. Definetly very heavy, and needs a lens support for stability but it produces some pretty images.

Hey everyone, I purchased a Proskar 2x Anamorphic Adapter about a month ago.
Here she is mounted to a 55m f3.5 Super Takumar:

I'll post some test footage sometime in the next couple of days!

Trying to find optimal range for Proskar... a jupiter9 85mm on it now (aps-c).
The 55mm has vignetting. So has the 85mm worked better?

Here is a little test I did:
ANA_Alanna_Web.jpg
You can see the corners....just barely. This was half sun so there was some white and some black.
I'm still getting used to this thing.

Also, @bwwd I seem to get infinity focus without having to remove anything...

With 59mm (again aps-c) no edges visible but still too vignette, so i'd guess minimum 100mm FF or so. However i got fungus on my glass so can't go much bellow 85mm anyway without it showing up :cheesy: Derp.

Still have to do IRL testing with jupiter9, just haven't got around doing it. But according to Andrew Reid's article he found 50mm on GH2 optimal, 50x1,85 = 92,5 FS, so yeah around 100mm.

So I am wondering if the squeeze is effected with longer focal length lenses?
I'm going to test it on my 135mm today.

Well, this kinda sucks...

Got a lomo 75mm roundfront in the mail, and can't seem to get focus with it. I could barely get it to fit with my Oct-19 mount so thats that. Going to see if I can trade for a squarefront and cash, or just hopefully sell this off for what I paid for it. Such a shame since this lens is a tank!

So here is the small test I did today

Here is a test I did today with my Proskar Anamorphic Lens.

Camera: Canon 7D
Lens: Super-Takumar 135mm f3.5
Anamorphic Adapter: Proskar 2x Anamorphic Adapter
Picture Style: Standard
24fps

Notes:
I am still learning how to use this properly. You will see some focus issues and some shifting. I have found that even the slightest tilt on the adapter will create a "Did you have your V8 today?" footage.

This focal length is wonderful, and has eliminated the vignetting I was getting from the Takumar 55mm.

This Takumar lens is known for being a little "on the soft side". A wonderful soft, sure, but I found that when looking at 5x + 10x, even with acurate focus distances, the footage looked a little muddy.

This anamorphic is also a little soft around the sides.

The color is nice and as you can see in one of the clips, the anamorphic light effects are pretty wonderful.

lol@flares... we need to step up our game guys... ;P

yrpfilms: Nope it doesn't, just look at how the glass is shaped (and realize what precision thingy it actually is to make).

It's very off btw, in case you didn't notice :o) I used several vertical lines as reference, walls, windows, etc. Nail it once and leave the adapter on... it's seriously not worth it.... just buy another adapter from the chinese guy on ebay if u got several lenses

My proskar w. "permanent" adapter & filter holder (err, with some ducttape)

Thanks to the guidance of Hunter Richards my 75mm is up and running in fine condition. Now if only it would stop RAINING for a day I'd be able to go shoot some footage.

I got no vignetting in proskar and 58mm and you can have working 50mm with it bu must be very close to the glass element of 50mm,it should touch it basically, then theres no vignetting.
You need to put band/tape on anamorphic focus ring and make marks on it to write where is focus according to focus distance on your 50mm lens or whatever lens.
I could actually shoot with 35mm + proskar but only on close focus ranges and cropped 2:35 ratio, more away than that and i got vignetting.
vignetting comes up when you close the lens so dont do that.
